  • Oscars coming up this week. I'm annoyed that Dune 2 is not going to win much and the reasoning I hear is that the academy wants to reward the trilogy so they're waiting for the 3rd movie. The third Dune movie will not be as good as this one because the story won't be as dramatic. Dune will be a lot like the original Star Wars trilogy where most people agree the best movie was the 2nd.

Anyway, what I'd really like to share with y'all is a strong underdog for the best animation: Flow. I just saw this movie a week or so ago, and it is truly amazing and thought-provoking.

Not a single word of dialog. A story told from the point of view of a young cat caught in a cataclysmic flood. The animals act like animals. I'm telling you, you'll be mesmerized. It was done by an indie group out of Latvia, which is another interesting story.

      • I know Forsh and I disagree on this but I really don't get how Anora won Best Picture. Or how it was nominated, for that matter. I thought it was okay and had some really good performances but it was a pretty empty and bleak film with nobody that I really felt like rooting for. Yes, some characters didn't deserve their treatment but I just couldn't get myself to be that invested in them.

        • I saw Captain America:Brave New World on Saturday.

A solid and enjoyable movie. It could have been a great movie but Disney tries not to offend anyone, so it falls a bit flat. The sad thing just couple small things would have tied everything together.

          1) The NSA to President Ross is the Marvel character Sabra. Who in the comics is a mutant AND a member of Mossad. I would have kept that. Instead making her ex Red Room (like the widows) diminishes her.

          2) I would have had a few very small scenes

          1) When Ross leaves the stage after his acceptance speech. He pulls out his cell phone calls Betty. The phone rings and we see Betty look at her cell sees it is her father and declines the call

Cut back to Ross with this deeply sad and worn look on his face. Sabra comes up to Ross. Ross looks at her and says, " I need you with your unique abilities in my cabinet."

Cut Sam and Bradley hanging out on election night talking bout Ross being elected. Sam still not quite totally comfortable being Cap. As Cap he is willing to give Ross a chance. Bradley much more fearful of a guy like Ross being president.

And one last post credits scene. Sam meets up Bradley. Bradley shows Sam a junk drive. They access it . All sorts of files open up including one that says mutant. And you hear a voice says......There will always need to be Avengers.

          • They are definitely teasing bringing X-men into the fold. I have mixed feelings on this. As I kid I read the comics, big fan. To me, the storyline has been told. Fox owned Marvel X-Men movies were a bit disjointed with direction but on the whole I liked them. The characters of Professor X (Patrick Stewart/James McAvoy), Magneto (Sir Ian Mcallan/Michael Fassbender), and Wolverine(Hugh Jackman) especially I can't see other actors filling the shoes. Not everything needs a reboot.

No doubt casting was the Fox movies strength. It is never going to happen but I thought when I saw New Mutants that doing a sequel would be the perfect way to introduce mutants into the MCU. They had just broken out of their school. Nothing for miles around. And since Sinister (the essex corporation) ran the place you know that he would send a team after them to recapture them. And Cerebo would pick up new mutant signtures. So Charles sends a team to investigate too.

And that would get past the need for an origin story told yet again.

I liked it. I thought the casting for Illyana/Magik (Anna Taylor-Joy), Rahne/Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams I think?) and Dani Moonstar/Mirage (Blu Hunt) were spot on. Thought there was good chemistry between Rahne and Dani (as there should be).

The idea of the Essex Corporation running a school had promise using Dr. Reyes as their caretaker had potential. I also appreciated that they went in a more horror direction and the demon bear is legit scary in the comics.

But yeah, there is very little for Sam Guthrie (Cannonball) and Roberto (Sunspot) to do. They are just kinda there. The biggest problem is Fox just didn't spend a lot on the movie and never believed in it.

                  • It has no real tie in to Xmen...which makes it a stand alone movie with not much substance. To me, Logan was the real send off/end of Fox owned Marvel.

                    • I am sure it will be disappointing, but I just saw the trailer for Happy Gilmore 2. I think it will probably match up to the Matrix Series' downfall or how Deadpool 2 was awful, but Deadpool was great, and of course, the horrible blunder of Deadpool's Wolverine.

I thought it was a fun movie. Deadpool and Wolverine is a very meta movie but then so is Deadpool. I loved seeing X-23 (Daphne Keen) back and hope to see more of her in the MCU. Putting Channing Tatum (as Gambit) in the void was inspired.

Cassandra Nova was a frightening villain. I would eager she is the biggest threat in the Fox movies and might be the strongest one of any Marvel villain shown so far.
