Another movie seen: The Bourne Supremacy

I really dig this franchise, this was a good movie but it didn't have the same energy as the first one. There is an obvious reason for that, but still a good movie nonetheless. I look for the next one to be good as well.

I liked them both but The Bourne Supremacy illustrates an annoying trend in action flicks these days. I'm talking about the quick, flashy cuts n hand held cameras that are so disorienting. Rather than infusing energy into the action, you lose any semblance of coherence leaving the viewer wondering what the hell those two dozen or so shots were over the last 10 seconds. I blame Oliver Stone, it all started with Platoon!

I agree completely, Mark. I read an interview with the director and he said they used a lot of hand-held cameras to film the action to make it seem more real. But Supremecy went too far, especially in with the fight in the apartment and the car chase. Those two scenes were difficult to watch because of the shaky cameras. Overall excellent film, but use more steady-cam next time!

It drives me nuts and if anyone is prone to vertigo, this type of cutting will do it to you. I could even stand the hand held camera on its own, I think its the cutting to 3 or more points of view which really disorients. You practically need a good dose of dramamine before watching!

I watched City of God again the other day. What an excellent flick! I know a lot of people don't like sub-titled films, but I think this film would be a compelling watch, even for those who don't like sub-titles.

              copied from another forum...

Church is the Spider-Man 3 Nemesis!
Source: Columbia Pictures March 22, 2005

Thomas Haden Church, who was most recently nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Sideways, has been cast as Spider-Man's new archenemy in the next chapter of the "Spider-Man" adventure, it was announced by director Sam Raimi and producers Laura Ziskin and Marvel Studios' Avi Arad.

Spider-Man 3, which is scheduled for release on May 4, 2007, will reunite the successful team that was responsible for the first two blockbuster films. The franchise has grossed more than $1.5 billion in worldwide ticket sales and the new film will again reteam director Raimi, producers Ziskin and Arad, and actors Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as M.J..

Production on Spider-Man 3 is scheduled to begin early next year.

"In addition to the on-going relationship between Peter Parker and M.J., these films are driven by the great actors who have brought our villains to life," said Raimi. "Thomas Haden Church will be a fantastic and challenging new nemesis and we all look forward to working with him."

The identity of the new villain is being kept secret and while speculation is rampant about which character is being called into action, the studio will not comment on the casting beyond confirming Church.

Since his star-making role in Spider-Man 3 [surely they meant Sideways--Urban], Church has been in demand. The actor is voicing one of the characters in the upcoming animated film Charlotte's Web, and he recently appeared in Columbia Pictures' Spanglish. Church previously appeared in such other films as George of the Jungle, 3000 Miles to Graceland, and Tombstone. In 2003, he also starred in, co-wrote and directed the comedy Rolling Kansas. From 1990 to 1995, Church played Lowell Mather in the TV series Wings.

Oh yeah, I forgot he was in Spanglish, too... it was a small part, though.

I'm watching/taping (not gonna stay up for the whole thing) Harry Potter 3 (Azkaban) right now. There's just something about the Potter movies that makes me like them ... and I never thought I would. The part when Malfoy acts all cool and tough when Harry finishes riding that flying animal, then Malfoy tries to tame it, gets his arm kicked and whines 'it killed me! it killed me!' made me thankful I wasn't consuming a beverage at the moment ... cuz if I was, it would have been all over the place

Also taping 'Boyz N the Hood'. What a flat-out amazing movie. Cuba Gooding, Jr. really nailed it in the early '90's with that and (the other) 'Gladiator' (boxing movie with James Marshall, Brian Dennehy and Robert Loggia co-starring ... underrated).

Anybody besides me planning on seeing Sin City this weekend? This is the first movie I've been excited to see for quite some time. And no it's not just because it has Jessica Alba, Rosarios Dawson, James King, Devon Aoki and Carla Gugino getting all freaky-freaky in it. I love Frank Miller's stuff and the visuals from the trailers look stunning. Should be fun.

Most anticipated movie for me possibly ever. Can't see it for awhile, though. I actually was gonna start a thread for it, but didn't want to risk seeing spoilers. Gonna have to be careful!

I wish we knew the background color here. Then you could change the font color, slap in a <spoiler: swipe> and hide the text for spolers. </swipe> and diguise the damned things so people wouldn't blunder into them.

We use white in the TV thread....seems to be close enough.

There is no exact match (at least among the standard font colors) but, white, or even light blue, is close enough that you can not read it if you choose.

Went through the Godfather flicks, ALL the Star Wars flicks, and I'm working my way through the Matrix flicks right now cause I've had a pile of time off. Call me crazy...

Only cause I'm a film geek. Jesus. Time to pick up on a new hobby!
