        • I haven't been a fan since then either. The first Jack Reacher was pretty good but other than that he's been shit since jumping up and down on Oprahs couch.

Edge of Tomorrow is a great movie. It helps when Doug Liman is your director of course.. American Made, the Cruise movie up, is also directed by Liman, so that gives it more than a fair shot at being good.

The Mummy looked like shit from the get go. If you can't cut an interesting trailer for a movie like that, you probably have a problem.

              It is a thing.

Yes, this. Edge of Tomorrow was very good, but Cruise was surrounded by a talented crew with great overall direction (Liman, McQuarrie). Emily Blunt was a star.
I thought MI5 was a really good movie too.

Outside of that? Cruise has been in a bunch of middling/crap movies since the early 2000s... when movies like "Minority Report", "Collateral", and even "The Last Samurai" were great ...IMO.

American Made does look like a great movie but if they swapped Cruise with Bradley Cooper or Christian Bale etc it would be even better.

Nah. He was hilarious in Tropic Thunder. Mission Impossibles are generally solid to good. Oblivion was solid. And "Edge of Tomorrow" was fantastic. From my perspective, he's been willing to risk his star power on risky sci-fi movies and get studio backing because of it. Given the industry's current fetish with super hero sequels and reboots, I'm thankful for Cruise's support for these type of movies.

He's had his stinkers - but every actor/actress does.

He does probably need to back off the action roles and start looking for roles more suited for older men.

Sure, its subjective. Rotten Tomatoes gives us an aggregate of many subjective opinions ...

Here are the "fresh" movies he's acted in since jumping on the couch ...

                          MI:III - 70%
                          MI: Ghost Protocol - 94%
                          MI: Rogue Nation - 93%
                          Jack Reacher - 64%
                          Tropic Thunder - 82%
                          Valkryie - 62%
                          Edge of Tomorrow - 91%

Here are the "solid" movies (my own definition - 50% or higher)
                          Oblivion - 53%
                          Knight and Day - 52%

                          Here's the shit movies
                          Mummy - 17%
Jack Reacher: Never go Back - 37%
                          Rock of Ages - 41%
                          Lions for Lambs - 27%

I'd say that's a pretty good record overall. And far better than "nothing but shit (other than Jack Reacher)".

                            • Can we all agree he needs to stop taking his shirt off though? Yeah, he's fit but he's always had sort of a weird body and age isn't helping that any.

lol no shame in that. Sadly, I've seen all of these except for Rock of Ages and Jack Reacher 2.

MI: Ghost Protocol - 94% ... Fun movie, with a twist by having Brad Bird direct
MI: Rogue Nation - 93% ... Probably Cruise's best movie since "Minority Report?" Rebecca Ferguson was a star.
                                Jack Reacher - 64%. ... Average, though I liked some of McQuarrie's cinematography/ shots.
Tropic Thunder - 82% ... Not a Cruise movie, but a good cameo
Valkryie - 62%. ... Had high hopes, but this turned out to be just above average. Bryan Singer is a hit/miss director
Edge of Tomorrow - 91% ... Actually, this is Cruise's best movie since MR

Here are the "solid" movies (my own definition - 50% or higher)
Oblivion - 53% ... Very flat action flick
Knight and Day - 52%. ... My parents actually bought this on Blu Ray... why?

                                Here's the shit movies
Mummy - 17% ... How dare you do this to The Mummy
Jack Reacher: Never go Back - 37%
                                Rock of Ages - 41%
Lions for Lambs - 27% ... Very slow. I liked Robert Redford's character
                                My thoughts ^
Cruise had a good run from 1983-2003 ish. 20 years is very good. Last decade or so? A lot of mixed success.
He should mix it up and do more comedies (Tropic Thunder) or drama (Jerry Maguire, Eyes Wide Shut, Born on Forth of July). Less action!
