So when my gf and I were picking out movies to watch this weekend I landed on Hangover 3 and I was thinking she's pick a chick flick. Boy was I wrong. The second feature was Magic Mike. I wasn't very enthused with the idea of watching a movie on male strippers and while he's in pretty good movies (Not GI Joe.. Man that was bad) I generally don't think Channing Tatum is a good actor.

All in all it was a pretty good movie. Good acting and it had good flow to the storyline. I'll never admit to it again tho

So wait a minute, are you upset that they are "remaking" that POS Brendan Fraser movie? Which itself was a re-interpretation of the mummy movies from the horror stables of the old studio days?

Lol, that was a great "child hood" movie. Just entertaining, nothing extraordinary.

Haven't seen that yet, I have really caught up though - here are a few I recommend off the top of my head.

Disconnect - Good

The Place Beyond The Pines - If you like Ryan Gosling (and who don't?)

Would You Rather - Horror, kinda squeamish

In Their Skin -Horror - ok

Silver Linings Playbook - Not that new - pretty damn good

End of Watch - same as above - Cop Movie


World War Z - What a let down- terrible

Yea, is was that type movie, that one kid played a good punk that you wanted to bitch slap. I waited a while for that movie, only thing I didn't like was Gosling taking out so fast - was weird.

Someone mentioned Breaking Bad and I think it's up there with The Sopranos as one of the best shows that's been on television.

Pacific Rim was a guilty pleasure and I enjoyed it despite the silliness and the fact it was a derivative cross between Godzilla and Transformers. I'm generally in favour of any entity with a height > 20 stories which creates havoc in a major metropolitan center. That includes the Staypufft Marshmallow Man.

Watched The Lincoln Lawyer and was pleasantly surprised. A sleeper flick with solid writing and performances.

Some people hate Tom Cruise but I like him. He's a solid actor and picks good vehicles, although the writing and direction can occasionally be inconsistent (I'm thinking movies like The Last Samurai, Top Gun and War of the Worlds as examples. He had an excellent turn in Tropic Thunder, I didn't even recognize him at first and I think his best performance to date was a supporting role as T.J. Mackey in Magnolia.

Anyway, Jack Reacher was a nice surprise and I really enjoyed it although I should qualify this by saying I haven't read the books. I understand why those that have read them would be put off as the character is over six feet and apparently imposing. I know when Willem Dafoe was cast as John Clark in Clear and Present Danger I had a difficult time suspending disbelief. That being said, the movie is well written, well directed and the performances are solid.

I also enjoyed Oblivion for the same reasons. The art direction and CG was also lush which added to my enjoyment. Just thought I'd pop in and offer up a couple o suggestions. Have a good one!

I'm at the end of season 2 right now, yup... it is REALLY good. Quality wise, it is probably the greatest show I've ever seen (I never watched The Sopranos or any drama tv series before the 2000s).
Hopefully the quality of the story keeps up and doesn't decline or anything (like The Walking Dead).


SPOILER for those who haven't seen "The Walking Dead:"
By the way, I love The Walking Dead. Seasons 1-2 were amazing. Season 3 was great. So far, Season 4 has been SHIT. Its like they aren't going anywhere with the story. The character development for the new characters (seasons 3-4) hasn't been good at all... its kind of hard to replace all of the characters you become emotionally attached to (like Lori, Shane, Dale, Andrea) if you don't develop new characters properly. The Walking Dead hasn't done that yet in my opinion. What is the purpose of Rick anymore? He is prob my favorite character, but I just think they have done a bad job at giving him a purpose in season 4... I hope (and expect) them to go somewhere with this season...

The Sopranos and Breaking Bad have to be the best 2 shows ever. My withdrawals were so bad I watched 'Last House To The Left' (again) just to see Jesse Pinkman.

I like Tom Cruise also, Jack Reacher was really good until that last seen with Robert Duvall so Hollywood over the top. Knight and Day is a good sleeper as well as Valkyrie - I watched a documentary on the real Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg 2 nights ago, what a story - so close - Hitler couldn't shake hands with his right arm after that, he was hurt so badly.

That was another movie I waited on, was a little disappointed, good - but thought is was going to be better. Seemed more like a good 70s tv crime stopper than a big time thriller.
