  • I liked District 9. the allegory was a little thick sometimes, but it was an interesting take on the aliens coming to earth story...

    • I liked District 9 too, although I seem to like a lot of those strange style of movies. It wasnt the best movie of all time so dont expect that, but it was well worth the spot on my netflix queue.

        • I liked District 9 quite a bit. It was definitely different and, as SLF said, it had a nice twist on the aliens landing on earth genre. It had that documentary/cinema verite style to it, but that faded as the movie progressed into a more standard action oriented film towards the end (which disappointed me somewhat). But it's amazing that they could get such solid special effects out of such a limited budget.\

I don't think it was anywhere near Oscar worthy as an overall film, but then again, neither was The Blind Side. I'd say that if you like sci-fi, it's well worth the look.

          • Definately didn't think it was best picture worthy.

Part of the problem I think was that the advertising didn't fit the movie. It wasn't a scifi shootemup but I think it was marketed as such.

              • Recently saw Up in the Air. I thought it was very good except for one small part.

                • Seen Brothers last nght and had been waiting for it. I was expecting it to be a lot more melodramatic, the trailer can be misleading. Tobey Maguire is really good as the Marine who's character gos to war - the tragedy that happened to him and then he's back home. Natalie Portman is also very good as his wife and Jake Gyllenhaal as his brother. There are a few plot holes that hold this movie back for me, then again I was'nt expecting 'The Deer Hunter'. Over all, I like it and it should keep you interested (it did me) all the way till the very end.

                  • That movie interests me just because of Maquire's role.

                    • Yes, a far cry from Spider-Man, his best work IMO

                      • Watched Inglourious Basterds last night. While I thought all the individual scenes/books were great, the movie seemed quite disjointed as a whole. Still, entertaining acting and dialogue. Easy to see why Christoph Waltz won Best Supporting Actor.

                        • I didn't care for it. It looked like a movie made in the style of Quentin Tarantino.

                            • Going into the movie you have to expect it from Quentin Tarantino. Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 1 & 2 and the great Jackie Brown were all the same Tarantino style. From Dust Till Dawn had one of the weirdest turns ever, I remember my xwife saying "their dreaming now" when the vampires came out. Reservoir Dogs and True Romance are also some of my favorite moves.

                              • Usually, I really like that style, but for some reason it just seemed more disjointed in Basterds than in his other films. But it might have been due to all the subtitles, which were moving very quickly.
