Your second theory is way deep. I think someone who has read the book could shed some light on it for us. I tend to agree with your first theory. Nicely put about Wells' sense being drained from him on the stairs. It was palpable, wasn't it? And I agree about the hype. I was thinking about theory two this morning while I was getting ready for work and it seemed somewhat plausible the more I thought about it. So when I got to work I did some googling and I found one other person who tossed out the same theory but I think overall it's not likely. I was racking my brain trying to remember what Bell said about his dream right at the end. I saw it in the theater during the holidays. It was different than what I had expected. I liked it, but it wasn't great.
