  • Hmmm... mixed bag, I guess. It's definitely "new era" Spike Lee, but it's also more about various characters in the context of the fear created by the killings than the killings themselves - or the person who did them.

If you're into acting, it's worth seeing just for Adrien Brody's performance as a fish-out-of-water punk rock hustler.

    • Adrien Brody is a cool cat but I'm not much of a Spike Lee fan.

      • I didn't really enjoy Summer of Sam but when calijawn says it's "more about various characters in the context of the fear created by the killings than the killings themselves - or the person who did them", he's right on. And Adrien Brody was pretty good in it.

        • Watched "The Prestige" the other night. I liked it a lot, good performances, visually interesting. Though, I had the whole thing pegged early on.

Still, I like Christopher Nolan's directing style and this was another solid effort from him.

          • Saw Wild Hogs instead of Zodiac this weekend. What a mistake. We were hung over and couldn't get out of the house until 10 PM and didn't think we could stand a 2:30 hr flick. I'll see it this week sometime.

Anyone see 300 yet? I heard it rocked.

            • I saw Borat this weekend. Amusing but not hilarious but then I'm not all that into silly humor. For the most part anyway. I did LOL a few times. The naked wrestling scene was.....was.....was....I'm really not sure what to say about it.

                  • If anyone else knows the amazing story of Thermopylae and sees 300, let me know.

Part of me wants to see 300 but am afraid that it really won't portray the heroism and bravery of the greek defenders. Particularly the 300 Spartans and 700 thespians that sacrificed thier lives in that battle.

I don't think there's anyway around displaying them in a heroic way. The movie is named 300.

There is movie heroism, and there is real heroism, is my thought...

They got actors to help out?

                          • re Borat: I saw it several months ago and had the same reaction, Rommy. The bear in the ice cream truck was the only part that stayed with me and still makes me chuckle. The naked wrestling scene will haunt me the rest of my days.

It's a movie based on a Frank Miller graphic novel. What were you expecting, historical portrayals?

                              • I'm not expecting anything...but I think it would detract from the movie for me. Which is why I was asking if anyone knew of the battle, and whether it affected how they viewed the movie.
