  • I'm on vacation so I watch a lot more TV than I normally do because we don't have cable. My wife watches the latest reality shows on TLC on one TV and I catch up on some movies on the other one. Unfortunately, I haven't got any new ones in besides Puss N Boots. The reason is USA had their Harry Potter marathon and I always get sucked into those movies.

    • I’m out on Wick, too. Could never get into it and I also hate dogs.

      • Narvik is a good flick on Netflix. Good character take on real events from WWII regarding Norway and those cocksucker Nazis.

                • Saw “Jurassic World: Dominion” yesterday. It’s on Amazon Prime for free. Ok movie. Maybe below average, but I’ll give it a slight bump because Dr. Allen Grant is an awesome/ nostalgic character.

Is almost every action movie the same nowadays? Different stories and settings, but grossly similar narratives and plots.
                  - Starts out with a quick action or uninteresting monologue scene as a hook.
                  - Introduces several generic characters in different places.
                  - One note villain that typically wants money or to destroy the world.
                  - Generic car chase action scene in the middle of the movie at a random city.
                  - Tons of quips mixed in to keep the audience engaged.
                  - Third act is all CGI action that is overly predictable.

Ehhh. Few exceptions out there of course. I just get annoyed with this brain dead formula. More so the reason why I’ve been more into TV series in the last decade.

Fair to say my Jurassic Park enthusiasm died down since this thread… thanks, Jurassic World movies….🙄 https://www.detroitlionsforum.com/fo...jurassic-world

                  • Matt Damon spoke about movies these days and why we’re not getting a ton of movies like we used to. He went on about how studios got 2 major money streams. 1 from the box office then an almost equal 2nd check coming from DVD sales and rentals.

He said with that second revenue stream gone studios are much more careful and generic these days. It makes sense because there used to be so much better stuff.

I will say that the series realm is soooooo much better than it used to be. Movies, not so much

                    • It used.to.be you would get 1 or 2 sequels out of a movie and normally those were worse than the.original. What these franchises are trying to do is beat a dead horse. The original Jurassic Park was amazing because you saw realistic dinosaurs on the big screen, by the 6th iteration the spark is gone. The Avenger movies are.the same way, it was amazing that they wove a story to get all of these superheroes together. Nobody had done that before. But now not has been done, it's going to always be hard to write something new and exciting when you are 20 movies in.

                      • Don't even get me started on Fast and Furious. It's pure insanity how this shit even gets made. Its like they're taking the joke trailer movies from Tropic Thunder and running with them

They must be digging deep to cover the Schwanzenslurpin brigade.
Where are we going; and what's up with this hand basket?

                            • Fast and Furious movies keep getting made because they make a shit ton of money. At this point the franchise has fully morphed into James Bond with cars. It's hard to remember the original movie was basically Point Break with cars.

The Avengers story somewhat mirrors the comics so they are legitimately sequels already written. Or more so, the same story but a new day/villain. Some we may never see because of the business end of the studios. Like the love and pairing of the Panther and Storm.

IDK if using the Marvel movies as comparison with other movie arcs who make it ALL up on the fly is the same. Mostly, people who have read the story already get ticked off (even with originals) when they go changing things.

But as you said, making money...

The next one (where they get the NEW Marvel heroes together) is supposed to be even more Epic with all the dimensions and time being in trouble.

Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.
