Yeah it was good! Wish I'd caught it in IMAX, but it was great in terms of character
WHO CARES why it says paper jam when there is no paper jam?

      • I definitely regret not seeing it in IMAX. I saw Dunkirk in IMAX and it was amazing. 1917 would have been on par if not beyond.

        • Yeah I actually did see Dunkirk in IMAX ... I liked 1917 better even in regular theater

          • Funny I am having this debate here.

I debated it with my brothers for nearly three hours. I had not seen 1917 at the time; only Dunkirk.

Nolan is incredible and he has been so prolific that now it seems slightly formulaic. Austere, restrained, technical, and then he opens up the score and the narrative at last (civilian boat scene in Dunkirk). It is almost like the movie was designed for you to not take a full breath until that moment. At the time I would have easily have it fighting top 3 war movies of all time.

1917 feels like a different movie entirely, but has similar effects. It is super literary and the razed city sequence -- a full act before the climax which was equally stunning -- is amazing. Also, plot/characters makes it way more accessible.

I am obviously not settled, but everyone else I've talked to shares your sentiment -- I think my hang up is purely stubbornness. Happy to watch both of them again and that is the true luxury.

I didn't understand a word of that (🥴) ... but I liked 1917 better cuz I thought it just made you care more about the characters

I damn near typed the same thing. He sounds like he knows what he’s saying but I guess I didn’t have the patience or the “edumacation” to understand it

                  • Just hoping to see Tenet.

Also, I'm Thinking About Ending Things should be out soon. Looks goooooooood.

                    • "Train to Busan" is a really good/entertaining zombie movie. On Netflix. Probably up there with "28 Days Later" when it comes to my favorite movies involving zombies.

                      Yeah, same.
Very positive reviews so far. Tried to skim through the reviews while avoiding spoilers.
One nitpick saying it's "humorless." What, does every blockbuster have to be a Marvel movie all of a sudden? F*** off. I'll leave it at that.

I still don't feel comfortable going to a theater, but if anyone has a positive experience, please share. Maybe movie theaters figured something out.

                      "Dune" trailer #1 incoming soon.

                      • Yikes yea,

                        totally forgot about Dune.

Humorless, yea. Nolan getting backlash for the sterile narrative -- definitely not a complaint of mine. I walk into those movies with informed expectations.

                        • Thoughts on the new “The Batman” trailer? Don’t know how many times they can rehash the same character, but I thought the trailer looks intriguing. Seems grittier than previous iterations anyway.

                          • Just got out of TENET in IMAX ... this might be the first movie where I watch the complete director's commentary when it comes out.

Not saying it's the greatest movie by any means ... but a whole lotta WHAT JUST HAPPENED
