It was at near the tail end of his pre governor run on expensive action movies. It was pretty decent but not ground breaking. It was a bit of a by the numbers Arny movie. The plot was pretty good even if they only brushed against the options.

Yeah even in pretty good movies I check my watch a couple times. Can't remember checking it once and it was nearly 3 hours. The scenes have this ramp up that follows the music, it's like a slow burn that gets bigger and bigger and then crashes down and the next scene starts it back up. A really interesting cadence.

Depends on how much you like Arnie and Sly movies. It has some of the Arnold action that'd one would expect and also presents interesting Sci-Fi themes.
Good movie overall. I might like it more than others due to watching it multiple times at age 10.

            • So, do I need to see Blade Runner in the theater for the visuals? Trying to figure out when to carve out 3 hours to go to the theater without the kids or if I just wait for home viewing.

The imagery is very vivid and extremely well shot. If you have seen Mad Max, its kind of like that everything in every frame has value. So the theater experience only increases the absorbtion rate of the imagery. But in the end it will last look great at home as well.

The real reason to go to the theater for this is the audio track. Specially the way the music plays into the scene and helps with tension. I doubt more than one or two people on this forum have a home audio setup good enough to recreate this experience.

                  Without question, yes.
2049 is winning best cinematography this year, deservingly. The visuals that are presented are some of the best I’ve ever seen. Not just the settings, but the shots that Villeneuve and Deakins get ... this will be shown in film classes.

Seeing this for a 3rd time this weekend, hopefully.

                  • So finally got to see Blade Runner last night. Really fricking good. Good call seeing it in the theater, as the sound really was amazing, as were the visuals as expected. My complaint with this movie, as it is with all of Villaneuve?s films is, he just lingers too much in a lot of scenes. At certain points lingering on shots for extended period moves beyond pacing and mood to just lingering. And that?s how you end up with an almost 3 hour movie that would have been just as good at 2.5 or less.

But, if that?s the price you have to pay for him to keep making cool movies, so be it.

                              • Well I have. Went and watched Justice League tonight and it was frigging awesome. It was better than any of the Avenger movies or Marvel series.

It was a straight up good guy vs bad guy flick without any bs current events agenda driven screen time. I hated the first installment of Wonder Woman but she was awesome in this one and the entire cast was great... besides Ben Affleck. He did well in Batman vs Superman and was ok in this one but IMO he was the weakest link.

Other than that it was pretty awesome.
