  • Better than Spider-Man 2?!
I'm a little surprised that Spider-Man Homecoming did so well considering the director. This probably proves that the MCU doesn't need proven directors to come up with something good. Kevin Feige has a formula and it works. The MCU has to miss at some point! It's can't be with Cogler's "Black Panther." Maybe Thor 3, but I like that director.

First reviews (on social media) of "Dunkirk" are really positive. Supposedly a must see in IMAX. ... and Harry Styles can act?! Oh shit

    • I thought it was pretty good but i like the new kid playing spidey. He's this out of nowhere actor that seems perfect for the role. It doesnt hurt that Keaton is playing across from him. I just like the way it was shot. Not only is he going through all his kid stuff trying to see where he fits in but he's trying to see where he fits in the superhero world.

      I liked it.

Thats good news about Dunkirk. I'm truly looking forward to that one

Almost certain Black Panther and Ragnorak will rock.

Probably the next avenue for a potential miss is Antman and the Wasp.

That said they have had their share of dispointments. Thor 2, IM2, Avengers 2. Had some critical flaws. But Marvel makes these movies seem fun and are therefore still very enjoyable even if critically the movies might be a bit weak. This applies to JW and Episode 7.

Its where other companies go wrong. Like DC. Not only was B Vs S a weak movie on its own. It just wasn't any fun to watch. When the plot falls flat it never turns into a fun brain off Popcorn flick.

          • Yea Thor 2 is probably the worst MCU movie, if not Iron Man 2 or The Incredible Hulk.
I read that Patty Jenkins (director of Wonder Woman) was going to direct Thor 2, but Marvel didn't like her vision of Thor 2. What a mistake. Instead the job went to Alan Taylor, the director of the most GoT episodes... and ep 7.6 of season 7, which will likely be amazing. Oh how TV is different than movies.

Her synopsis of what Thor was going to be sounded like absolute shit. She is a good director and Wonder Woman proves it. But lets not assume that she would have made Thor any better. She has also grown a lot in the like 7 years it took to get Wonder Woman after Thor.

                • I went to see the movie "The Big Sick" last night and it was fantastic. Thats one of the better movies ive seen all year and the best comedy Ive seen in longer.

                    • I think in general the TV director barometer doesn't really work.

                      Dark World was pretty forgettable.

Agreed, Jenkins idea was shit -- and would have likely been blendered by the studio any way.

But, Taylor had zero big movie experience -- then banged out two shitwads in two years.

Jenkins did Monster in 03? Not a movie I'd watch regularly, but it is a good movie.

TV directors have such small influences episode to episode.

                      • Monster is a good movie. I wonder why she didn't do more movies between Monster and Wonder Woman.

Oh man. Locked in for "Dunkirk" at an IMAX on Thursday... good seats. This will be ... legendary. Especially considering the reviews so far, and well, Nolan. Chatter of Nolan finally getting his Oscar.

                        • Agreed on all counts.

                          Ya, not sure.

Almost nothing in those years -- definitely involved in the better seasons of THE KILLING.

                            • I wonder if we will get a sequel for "Witness" or "The Mosquito Coast" so that we can get closure of Harrison Ford's character with old Harrison Ford.

Trailer: Love the cinematography. Most shots are pretty. When you combine one of the hottest director, actor, and composer... + the greatest cinematographer ever. This movie can't go wrong, can it?

                              • I hope they don't try to make that one lady a love interest. Hollywood ruins everything by trying to add romance to every single movie. Worst part about the Hollywood remake of "Ring"...
