  • Can i talk TV here??!!

What's Homeland like? It's starting over here soon, and I like a few things Damien Lewis has done (BoB and Life).

I'm not really that fired up, but it felt like a movie made not to communicate but to show everyone how smart the person making/watching/acting/etc is.
My take on those scenes was him both asking and answering in his mind "Where did I come from/what's the meaning of life?"

I'll agree some of it was look-at-me cinematography (kind of like all the Star Wars prequels that existed purely to show off special effects and completely murdered what was at one time the greatest story ever told in film). More of a private work of art thing.

        • Going back in the thread, I liked Moneyball but the book was more compelling and gave a much stronger sense of the dynamic consequences of financial considerations on the sport. I thought Pitt was fine in it; there wasn't much else to do with that role.

Saw "The Thing" which is a prequel to John Carpenter's 1984 version. I liked it overall although the devices used to build tension were more or less typical. Still, I feel that Carpenter's version is superior, particularly in respect to effects. The computer generated effects felt computer generated and didn't really feels as creepy as they were in Carpenter's version.

If you haven't seen Winter's Bone yet, I'd recommend it. I'm surprised I watched it because it's pretty damned slow, but oddly compelling despite that fact. Be forewarned, while not explicit it's still pretty damned dark.

          • Hey Zilla, good to see you.

            Winter's Bone is excellent.

Recently saw the documentary Burzynski. Haven't had a chance to do any research but holy crap if it's remotely true my distrust of the government just deepened ten fold. We should be throwing millions of dollars at this doctor and his research. He is closer to curing cancer than anyone else.

Btw Dean, there's a TV thread in the off topic section.

              • Watched Safe House last night. It was an enjoyable flick, I always like Denzel in these types of roles, when he's a badass, like in Man on Fire and Training Day. Ryan Reynolds did a good job as well I feel like he's come a long way from Van Wilder and Waiting.

                      • Watched Take Shelter over the weekend. Checked the Rotten Tomatoes website ahead of time...received 93 fresh tomatoes.

I will never trust the judgement of Rotten Tomatoes again. I love feeling increasingly depressed only to be skewered by an awful ending.

                        • I watched Kalifornia today and I'll be damned if it wasn't a good movie. Brad Pitt is a great actor. He and Juliett Lewis played their parts really well.

Yes it is, called Four Seasons. One of the other stories is The Body, which is what was made into the movie Stand By Me .

On another note, I'm about to go see Act of Valor. Hope its good. It was either that or Project X.
