Woman Arrested After She Allegedly Spanked Stranger's 2-Year-Old in Store

CINCINNATI ? A woman took a stranger's toddler son over her knee and spanked him three times inside a store after he said something that annoyed her, police said Wednesday.


Gloria Ballard was arrested on an assault charge in the Tuesday incident. In a court appearance Wednesday, she asked for a public defender and a not guilty plea was entered for her. She was also ordered to stay away from 2-year-old Sean Goode and his mother, Donnay Jones.

Outside court, Ballard denied wrongdoing and said she gave the boy a hug and gently patted his backside because he was upset.

Jones said her son got spanked after Ballard told her she should make him behave.

"She was basically trying to tell me what to do with my son," Jones told WLWT-TV. She told Ballard she would handle her own business and son. Then, she said, Ballard took Sean from her and spanked him, causing him to cry.

"I was shocked," Jones told WCPO-TV on Wednesday.

Ballard, 43, faces a charge that carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. She said she is a mother and grandmother who was just trying to help.

"And I got this," Ballard said, while holding a paper that described the charge.

Without knowing anything further about the story than what I read here, I would be willing to bet that Ms. Jones is, at the most, 20 years old, and the baby daddy is either in jail or nowhere to be found. I see so many little kids running around, screaming and causing a ruckus because their parents don't know shit about being a parent because they were still kids when they had kids.

When I was in New York, after a profitable day at the casino, I decided to treat myself to steak and lobster. Unfortunately, my dinner was interrupted constantly by a screaming little terror named Colin who kept insisting he was a good boy. All his parents kept saying to him was 'stop' and 'you're being a brat' or 'you're being a jerk'. So aggravating, that kid needed his ass beat and no doubt the young boy in the above case needed it done too.

I'm not condoning what the woman did if she did indeed spank the child, but I can see where she's coming from.

I am of the belief that if the child does not know how to behave in public, he/she should not be there. Even as a parent I am well aware of what it is like to be out to a nice restaurant to enjoy a meal, only to have it ruined because of a situation like yours Frank.

Golfer loses arm in gator attack

BEAUFORT, S.C. -- Officials say an alligator bit off part of a golfer's arm as he leaned over to pick up his ball at a private South Carolina course.
The man, who is in his 70s, was retrieving his ball from a pond when the 10-foot alligator bit him at Ocean Creek Golf Course in Beaufort County. The gator pulled the golfer into the pond and ripped off his arm in the struggle. His golf partners were able to free him.
Wildlife workers killed the alligator and retrieved the arm in the hopes it might be reattached.
The man has not been identified. He was being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina, but officials there would not release any information about him.
A call to the golf course was not immediately returned.

Nothing agitates me more on the golf course than slow players in front of me looking for golf balls in the water. When I hit one in the water I take a drop and move on. Its amazing what some golfers will do to retrieve a $3 golf ball. Now you don't have an arm, you old coot.

FORT COLLINS. Colo. - Authorities were trying to determine Thursday how to safely bring down a 6-year-old boy who reportedly clambered into his family's experimental balloon-powered aircraft and floated away from home, sheriff's officials said.

The Larimer County Sheriff's Department said the boy's family had been building an experimental aircraft that had a large helium balloon attached to it at their home, KUSA-TV reported. The aircraft was approximately 20 feet by 5 feet and covered in tin foil, the station said.

On Thursday morning, according to the family and officials, the boy got onto the aircraft and detached the rope holding it in place. Sheriff's spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said the boy climbed into the access door and the airborne device took off.

Several people in the neighborhood said they saw the aircraft floating over their homes and some snapped pictures.

Television news helicopters were tracking the craft, which was last seen floating south of Milliken, about 40 miles north of Denver.

Officials were scrambling to figure out how to rescue the boy.

The craft, which is shaped like a flying saucer, has the potential to rise to 10,000 feet, Campanella said.

I'm watching too. They said that the speed is deceiving because the helicopter is chasing it, etc. In other words, it's an optical illusion.
