Sure its a reason for some success but not enough to explain away his success. I don't think he will have any problem at all getting awesome recruiting classes at UofM.
College football is a different animal in the south, especially here in SEC country.

These kids want to play at LSU first, and secondly in the SEC. Miles isn't going to draw them to UM and the Big Ten. (very few, if any)

He is a decent coach. His biggest strength may be his ability to ignore the BS that the boosters and alums bring...

Some kids just want to leave home. Even in the south and Miles will get some of them. He's a pretty big name that will have the UofM brand working for him nationally and in Michigan obviously (just behind Louisiana in NFL football player production). He's already got a bunch of NFL guys who can point at for recruits. Again I think his recruiting classes will be top notch if he is hired at UofM.

      • The recruiting won't be a problem for near anybody.

The question is if Miles can be the guy that brings the most of his talent and won't get in their way with terrible game management.

        On that, I am dubious.

          You don't get it.

These kids don't give two shits about the UofM brand. He may recruit well, but it won't be because he brings Louisianna kids with him.

          • Also, the UofM brand is in the shitter right now. Kids aren't going to leave the deep south to follow that dumbass to the frozen north.

            • Agreed that LSU is sort of set apart because of of the amount of talent in the state and the amount that stays home to attend LSU. I don't think Miles would have any problems recruiting, but it's going to be by going to UM's traditional strongholds (Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida).

              • Miles is going to have no problem recruiting kids to UofM period.

Miles will, for sure, be able to bring up southern blue chipper kids to UofM, here and there, because of his inroads with the high schools down there. Its always works that way. Saban still gets Michigan kids to this day.

The UofM brand means something because when UofM wins its all over the national media. If UofM had MSU's 11 win season it would be a media bonanza. Kids will notice.

                    • LOL at Brook. Saban got one Michigan kid because he treated his mother well when he was coach at MSU.

check out this link. The only kid from north of the Mason/Dixon Line is Ingram

                            • Those ties to these high schools are not going to dissapears. He's a good recruiter and likely knows the major highschools coaches very well at this point.

Saban right now has like 6 (quick count of roster) LA kids on his roster.. yeah not super far away and still the south but before he got there Bama had only 1 LA kid on the roster.

Miles will be able to bring a few kids from the talent rich states down there that normally wouldn't look at UofM first.
