  • LOL. Contrast and compare.

"Michigan is a more natural fit for Rodriguez"? Hindsight is easy, I guess. Also, check his list of coaches who aren't going anywhere any time soon, like Pete Carroll and Urban Meyer.

    • I also thought the article was hilarious when they were talking about celebrating in Columbus because dickrod was fired.

        • According to Adam Schefter .. its seems like the Dolphins are #1 for Harbaugh now because they are about to offer him a lot of money.
If Brandon expects to speak with Harbaugh, he better do it tomorrow!

          • They won't speak with Harbaugh. They never had spoken with Harbaugh, and never intended to.

It's not that the ship has sailed... the ship burned to ashes in dry dock and was scattered to the sea.

The culture within the leadership of the U-M has not changed. They are still as arrogant as ever and were never going to lower themselves to Benedict Harbaugh.

            • Wow seriously? Miami. That's a horrible choice! That SanFran job is by far the better gig IMO. That's all he's looking for is the money? Lame.

              • And... why shouldn't he go to the people willing to shove the most money at him again?

Michigan never considered him. They never really talked to him, and certainly never made an offer. So it's not like he had any "home" heartstrings being pulled.

Blame the U-M if you want. But don't blame Harbaugh if he takes the best available offer.

                  • Rumor has it that SF offered Harbaugh 5 Mil over 5 years and Miami offered 8.

                      • I wonder where the fact that the Dolphins owner is also one of the biggest (if not the biggest) benefactor of the UM fits in??

Stephen Ross of the Ross School of Business is the guy ponying up hard for Harbaugh...

ftr, I don't think Harbaugh's style will translate well to the pros. He would have been much better served to settle in somewhere and serve as the head coach for 40 years ala Bo, Bobby, or JoePa.

                        • I don't want to have to break it to you guys, but MSU fans are experts on power struggles at a university. It takes a long time and a few bad coaching staffs to truly unite factions. The Spartans suffered from power struggles for 50 years, Biggie Munn hired Duffy Daugherty and instantly hated him. Power struggles chased Saban away.

Unless you hit a home run hire, some of the nonsense that plagued the Wolverines during the Rodriguez era can be expected to continue.

                          • Contrary to Chemi's current specualtion, I suspect that Harbaugh and Brandon had a deal, but Jimmy bailed when he started getting so much NFL attention. Brandon sounded a bit ticked when he said he thought Harbaugh was going to the NFL.

I think you're reading too much into it. I didn't detect any rancor. His brother is already a successful NFL coach, that's where the pressure and the money and the fame are. Strike when the iron is hot. They may have had a deal, but neither side will admit it, since they would probably have to pay RichRod another $1.4 million if they did.

                              • I get why coaches will jump at the cash of the NFL. But I'm not sure why the teams give so much cash out to these head coaches. Most of the time the big hires don't end up replicating their past successes.

Jim Harbaugh seems to be good coach and he is a great fit at Michigan. At Michigan he is probaby worth 7 million. I'm not sure that he is worth that in the pros, there is so much more that goes in to success at the pro level.

At the pro level if you have an excellent coach, you do everything you can to keep him. But identifying a coach who is going to succeed in the NFL is very hard.
