    • In John L's defense there that meltdown was well warranted.

        • Singer Josh Groban writes cheeky tweet about Rich Rodriguez using his song

Eric Lacy / The Detroit News

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez's emotional display of affection for his job at the team's banquet Thursday night might have won over some true blue faithful.

But it didn't appear to move songwriter Josh Groban, who seemed to playfully criticize Rodriguez's decision to play his hit cover of the song "You Raise Me Up" during the festivities.

"Coach Rodriguez, I'm very flattered," Groban wrote Friday on his Twitter page, "but crying to You Raise Me Up is SO five years ago."

Attempts by The Detroit News to reach Groban, so he could explain his tweet, were unsuccessful Friday.

          • Brady Hoke name is in the hat now

            Comment

            • Hoke could be an interesting option... and does have the Michigan ties that the university thinks is so important... but he's been fairly hit and miss with his teams. When it does come together, it comes together well... but meh otherwise.

About how I feel. This was tweeted by Gregg Henson who until tonight said Harbaugh was a lock. He also said Ron English will return (along with Hoke) as DC.

There are plenty of coaches out there that can do the job at U-M. It's not "Harbaugh or bust."

                      • The University of Michigan isn't going to fall off the map if they don't get over themselves and hire Jim Harbaugh.

There are plenty of capable, high profile (if you simply must have a big name) coaches that can do the job, and many of them would gladly take the job if offered. Urban Meyer had a out in his contract if U-M came calling while at Utah, for example. I don't think if they asked this time he wouldn't entertain the offer at the very least.

Not to mention the FCS (or whatever Division I-AA is now called) or Division II coaches that could make the jump. Grand Valley State's Chuck Martin (selfish plug here) has championship pedigree and will have a lot of success in Division I if he gets a deal that suits him (he doesn't want to leave the Midwest, most notably).

Even if you think it's possible that Harbaugh will come to Ann Arbor, it's not the end of the fucking world if he doesn't. There are good coaches out there if Michigan is willing to look.

                        • Before the Wisconsin game I thought Rich was a lock to return. After that game I went from lock to good chance of returning.

Now I think he's done. Between Rich crying and begging for another year to Brandon's "he deserves a chance to prepare for the bowl game without any distractions before I make my final evaluation" quote -- he appears all but done in Ann Arbor.

                          • And losing Dee Hart is going to hurt. I guess UM has bigger problems at the moment (umm, to say the least) but Hart was the number one overall all-purpose back in the country.

                            Sigh. Oh well.

                              • Nah. Rich was a mistake. He wasn't suited to the play in this conference. Just get somebody reputable and build. I was thinking--if Bo Schembechler had gone 3-9. 5-7 and 7-5 his first three seasons (though they only played 11 games then), would they have been calling for his head? No; for one thing, they were coming off a period of uncompetitive play, anyway. But Bo didn't do all the stuff Rich has done to alienate University administration, the alumni and the fans.
