  • Starting to feel a reason to keep moving on, though it does still get lonely living by myself again. Glad I have that damned dog (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel). He's a pain in the ass, but I don't know what I'd do without him.

Personally I think Michigan and Ohio state should be in the same division so The Game means something and they only meet one time each year, but even if they are in opposite divisions, why couldn't they play The Game that last week of the regular season?

Tennessee and Alabama are in opposite divisions but they play each other every year the third saturday of October like their tradition has held up.
They are concerned about um and osu winning the divisions and then meeting again in the championship game.

Personally I think it's silly. It's been a long time since it's been the big 2 little eight.

(unfortunately it's now more like big 1 very good 4, littler six and UM)

Personally I think they should be in the same division so that they only meet once a year no matter what, but that's just me. If they played twice a year The Game loses meaning.

          • I tend to agree, put them in the same division and make it the end of the year as it's always been. Texas/OU are in the same division and that is still one of the biggest games of the year.

                • Where to start is to look at all the conference rivalries that already exist - and structure the divisions so that the majority of those are maintained with divisional matchups. Have the remaining few be yearly cross-divisional matchups.

I'd hate to see games like the Little Brown Jug, Paul Bunyan's Axe, Old Oaken Bucket and other "trophy games" disappear.

                    • Big T1e2n to announce alignment tonight. Northern and southern divisions, it looks like--M, MSU, Minny, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern in the north. No more M-OSU every November. Thoughts? I gotta say--and I'm a long time Michigan fan and went there--that I like it. (Of course, I became an M fan when Duffy ruled the state). I like Michigan versus MSU the last game of the year. Things change, and you have to look at the positives.

Edit--well, now they're saying UM and OSU will still play each other at the end of the year, but that wasn't in the stories at ESPN and Mlive, so I guess we'll see. I'm fine either way.

                      • I'm not entirely certain the reason why you put the two teams in separate divisions in a way that makes sense, anyway.

No matter how you split it along geographical lines, U-M and Ohio State pretty much wind up together. To do so for "competitive balance" reasons is patently silly.

                        • The Big T1e2n is all about marketing, though; their TV network and other money packages are just head and shoulders above everybody else's. So, like a pro operation, they want to maximize the fan appeal, not just in their home territory but elsewhere.

                          • So, now the UM/OSU traditional game will mean nothing outside of just pride? Great . . . .

                            • I wonder if they'll do it like they've done it with Michigan and MSU in basketball since they added PSU, where some years they only play one conference game against each other, so they schedule a non conference game on the other court. Can you imagine an end of the season Michigan-OSU game that doesn't count in the Big Ten standings?

That won't happen. Michigan and OSU will always play a conference game each year. Its just like with Tennessee and Alabama, they're in opposite divisions but they play every year.
