  • St Mary's didn't beat a single quality opponent. I don't give a **** how exciting they could have been as a "Cinderella" team. They had a bunch of wins because they didn't play anyone good. You have you schedule as a mid major to even expect to dance and they didn't schedule or win their conference tourny.

I don't care if you only lose one game....if you played crappy teams you're not on of the best 34 at large teams.

Head to Head Arizona would kick the crap out of them.

    • Ftr, I'm with you Mass, wholeheartedly. Especially when you say it doesn't have to be the best 64 teams.

that's fine .... we have different opinions, because I don't care if they are one of the best 34 at large teams. It's not about who would beat another team straight up, it's about who deserves to be there for having a good season. Arizona did not. If you don't like St. Mary's give the spot to Crieighton .. or SDSU .. or even Penn State .. they at least finished above .500 in the conference.

It is interesting that they play in the same league as Santa Clara .... a team that beat Arizona straight up when they met in the NCAA's. Also the same league as Gonzaga, a team that has proven their value in the tourney when they made it.

As for the scheduling you are smart enough to realize the catch-22 situation they face. They can't get power conference teams to play them at home where they stand a good chance of winning ... so they have to go on the road which makes their record less attractive.

I don't like where the NCAA tournament committee is heading with their at-large selections ... only 4 were given out this year to mid-majors. They are taking away the story lines.

I mean really ... I can't wait for that Clemson/Michigan type matchup, can you? Both teams who at best will win 2 games and don't add any real interest to the tourney other than U-M actually being in the field.

        • Arizona beat Gonzaga. St. Mary's lost to them 3 times. I'm guessing that might have been the ultimate decider.

If Saint Mary's had beaten Gonzaga even once, it would have been a quality win and they may have gotten to the Tourney.

            • You guys haven't figured it out? State fans have this obsession about Arizona's consecutive tourney streak and they want MSU to move up the ladder...thus, Arizona should never have made the tourney this year.

              • ^ that too.

The streak is great if it's deserved. This year it wasn't.

I don't think State has a chance at that record by the way.

                  • Harris looks unstoppable so far at this point. If Michigan can control the boards better in the second half, they could really run Clemson out of the building.

                    • Hopefully that's the case, Clemson is a lot better inside than what we're seeing. I think they were surprised when we went 2-3 zone. They were really unsure what to do offensively.

                      • UM is in trouble I suspect.

Sims once again when faced with a decent 6-7+ defender is neutralized too easily. I think Stu Douglas has more block shots this game, probably more rebounds too.

I really hope one of their guards other than Manny gets hot from deep. Either Lucas-Perry,Novak or Stu Douglas.

                          • If U-M is in trouble, they don't look it at this point. The ball movement is pretty incredible, they are busting Clemson's full court press almost effortlessly.

The Wolverines are a typical bi-polar team. On any given night, they can beat anyone in the nation. On the next... not so much.

EDIT: Clemson is losing their cool. Their starting point guard just got ejected for throwing an intentional elbow, U-M up by 13.

I have no problem being wrong.

                              • As he got the steal I thought, "Wow it would be great if he could dunk"...then he did, I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting the ol' Chauncey layup.
