  • Oh, it was absolutely a failure on DeBoer's part. Less that their backup would have been a better option (he probably wouldn't have been), but at some point, you gotta be thinking about this kid's future. Down 21 after that pick? You gotta be able to tell Penix that he's got more ahead of him than potentially risk a serious injury that'll hurt his draft status.

    • I don’t watch much sports anymore. I pay attention to Lions very closely but still don’t watch them much.
I go down to the bar a few blocks away and watch the last quarter sometime.
      watch the playoff game though.
Just more invested in sports when I was younger.

Yeah it was more a matter of him needing to recognize keeping him in was a net negative for his team's chances to win for me. That is priority even over concern for the kid's future. I just don't believe he could perform (nor should he be expected to at that point). I've gotta believe someone not crippled would be the better option.

Definitely he failed one way or the other - whichever one is more egregious maybe doesn't matter in the end. I don't know if DeBoer's is speculated to move up somewhere (nfl or a colllege hc gig), but I consider that a demerit if I am evaluating possible hires. Whichever idea prevented him from doing the obvious best thing.

Thats why I said mildly satisfying. I don’t have any ill will towards the kid. Washington had a sick year offensively and Penix is the reason for that. That offense moves the ball with ease

Maybe but that game was over. Thats where the adults take over and make those decision for them. Penix might have wanted to up his numbers for the draft but he’s going to be beat up

That is still better than the days of the old unibomber shack, though, right? With the old coconut-shell radio.

Yeah. I am right there with you. I remember keeping scrapbooks of newspaper clippings of Lions and U of M as a young kid. Then not giving much of a fuck for a while. Then being into the Lions big. Then not giving much of a fuck. Then giving a fuck again. Then this fat fucking asshole........ well.....

Does being older make the good football stuff less important? Yeah. I feel less elation for the win than my younger self. But goddamit I'll enjoy it. I just witnessed U of M win the Championship. Not much of a U of M fan these days. But, Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!

                • I am happy, but not near as excited as I thought I would be.

I think maybe it is the taint of the cheating scandal that has me tempered. When somebody says, "yeah, but the sign stealing" I have no response to that. A lame, "Everybody does it" response just doesn't seem to cut it.

                  Yay! Go Blue! I guess...

                  • I’m euphorically excited about a natty.
Just need to have a mindset of not caring what other haters and trolls think. It seems like a loud minority at this time because Michigan’s winning shut people up. The NCAA won’t vacate the championship.

This team proved that whatever extra 1% that Connor Stallions thought he was getting didn’t really move the needle. M won this gauntlet schedule (8-0) down the stretch without that nut job. A lot of hypocrisy because these haters just ignore all of the other cheaters. Years of teams paying players under the table. The illegal tampering (cheating) that’s obviously going on nowadays. A few huge notable big ones like the UNC academic scandal and Ole Miss rigging ACT scores. Etc.

But oh, when Michigan is basically caught “jaywalking” .,, sound the alarm! Yeah, we admit that M technically broke a rule. This alleged advantage obviously wasn’t significant based on the results on the field.

I won't say "everybody does it," but from the early discovery from Catapult (a cloud video service that appears to have been giving unnamed schools, none of which are Michigan currently, improper access to game and practice film), it sure as hell seems like what Stallions was doing was a rather low-tech solution to scheming that Michigan is hardly alone in doing.

I think fans kinda expect that there is some gamesmanship that goes on behind the scenes. I think even the NCAA expects it; "stealing" this sort of info isn't even against the rules, merely specific methods of acquiring this info. But the "new" and "inventive" ways that teams are going about getting it feel above and beyond the usual gamesmanship we all have come to accept as, "boys will be boys," if you will.

                        • This was a huge win for Michigan. Everything going forward will be way more difficult. Potentially Ohio in back to back weeks then extended playoffs.

The NCAA sure does seem to have a massive desire to nail Harbaugh to the wall, and I suspect it's because he was one of the first "big name" college coaches to openly advocate for compensating players (at least, above the table). But that's just speculation on my part.

                            • What a great season. I was doubtful all season long as the OL just seemed to struggle to mesh like it had in the last couple of years, but they really came together and performed down the stretch. Can't say enough about the jobs done by Moore, Minter and the entire coaching staff. It would be tough to find a better example of the sum of the parts exceeding the individual pieces.

                              • Ben Herbert too. The strength and conditioning coach. I think he might be the best in the business.

Jim Harbaugh has advocated for player revenue sharing for years. NCAA desperately wants him out of the sport because SHAME when someone wants to cut some of their revenue pie…

Also shame that we didn’t get a NCAA Football 2024 video game trailer last night. That was rumored.
