  • I totally agree chemi, U of M shouldn't be proud to have tradition. They should really look towards the classier schools that burn couches when they win.
    F#*K OHIO!!!

Can't speak for anyone else, but that's never been me. I was fully cognizant of that fact that Michigan Football had for a while (since the early 2000's?) been a second tier, at best, program. Even if they somehow pull off the unthinkable and vanquish Georgia and Alabama back to back, I'm not the one to go around "arrogantly thumping my chest". And I'm certainly not doing it now. I'm just proud of them. No matter what happens from this point on, the 2021 season has been a fantastic, incredible journey.

But yeah, Harbaugh has taken a TON of shit from just about everyone -- from the media, to fans of the program, to fans whom hate the program. And of course, some of it, maybe even a lot of it was deserved.

He deserves a ton of credit here though. This season he has done an amazing job. This team was projected to be an irrelevant, middling conference team and now they are conference champions and are going to the college football playoff.

Also the notion that he was a bad coach and a failure at Michigan -- that's a really, really bad take. Yes he has failed against Ohio State (who in the conference hasn't), but in six seasons (yes I'm going to leave the covid year out because it was the most bizarre season in the history of the game) he has 4 double-digit win seasons. At Michigan he has a 61-23 record and has had the program for much of his tenure, ranked nationally. He's a good coach.

I'm glad that they "stayed the course".

        • I've thought that Harbaugh is the best coach for the Wolverines ceiling. Which is basically Stanford; a team that will occasionally shock the world but simply isn't going to be able to recruit the talent year in and year out to be a perennial program.

That SHOULD be fine! The sort of things Ohio State or Alabama do shouldn't be something ANY school should want to emulate. Michigan is actually a great school (my current significant other is in a graduate program over there, fyi). Be proud of what they've done this year! It's been an excellent season where it all came together.

          • Michigan will have trouble competing every year with SEC schools because they refuse to alter academic standards for sports.

Most schools don’t give a crap but Michigan won’t budge on it and they continue to lose out on top recruits. Ohio doesn’t give a crap as they’re the SEC North.

This year should be the year to get people believing in Harbaugh again and next year should be even better offensively. We’re going to have 2 years of JJ McCarthy and that kid is going to fucking great

            • The one thing that Michigan needs to change is the atmosphere at the big house. It was rocking against Ohio and it needs to always be 110,000 imposing their will to make it a hostile environment.

Besides msu still chanting and holding F' Harbaugh signs .... (even by a msu basketball player) Police received 349 calls, issued 20 citations and made five arrests following Spartys win vs Michigan. Property damage included a vehicle overturned and another set on fire. There were also multiple couch fires (as usual) that started minutes after Michigan State’s .... " win " .... vs Michigan.

After Michigan crushed osu . Not one person was arrested, no trouble just jubilation.

                  • Because there IS still a contingent in East Lansing that consider MSU a party school, and that tends to bring a... rowdier clientele. A lot of those rowdier types are more associated with someone attending rather than attending themselves, and thinks it'd be cool to start destroying shit... and rivalry games are merely the excuse they use.

I wish I knew why they think destruction is the best way to celebrate, but ya know... I suspect I have too many brain cells remaining to follow that thought process.

                    • Mel Tucker is not going to put up with that soon as Izzo is gone, besides a good guy - he likes Harbaugh (no matter what you might hear) and Harbaugh already has said he likes Tucker. Jim Harbaugh and Mel Tucker had a little family connection. Tucker was neighbors with Harbaugh's sister and his brother-in-law Tom Crean in Georgia.

                        • Tucker's going to do great in East Lansing. This was supposed to be a year where the Spartans take some lumps and have an entirely mediocre season. Instead, we went 10-2 and if not for a brain fart against Purdue we would have finished 11-1 as well. Both state of Michigan teams significantly overperformed their start of season expectations. It SHOULD be one hell of a ride for the next few years.

Make no mistake, Ohio State is going to win the bulk of the conference titles, but they SHOULD have at least one tough test every season between the Spartans and Wolverines (if not both) so that it won't be a given EVERY year.

                          • Quite a redemption story for Harbaugh.

Named National Coach of the Year today.

                            Congratulations, Coach Harbaugh!!

                              • Does anyone have a link to stream the game tonight? Step daughter and son in law were at his folks on Christmas and our house on the 26th to celebrate with our gang. His parents are wonderful antivax anti mask idiots that have now come down with Covid along with the rest of his family. Step daughter and son in law are vaccinated but we need to wait for their test results to make sure we aren't infected so no going out tonight for the game.
