Did anyone see Mario Manningham torch Terrance Newman for a TD. Just another solid UM WR. I thought he was a bust after watching him last year, but he has been spot on the first two games.

His general philosophy was "Games are won and lost in the fourth quarter."
That's fine... but he held to that philosophy every game, no matter the opponent. I dunno how many times Carr-led teams left points on the field because he was waiting for the fourth quarter to pull away.
It worked great against other teams of U-M's calibur (he had an excellent record against Top 25 teams)... but it worked against him in that a lot of inferior teams were able to hang on and get a lucky bounce here, a fluke play there, and pull off an upset far more often than should have happened.
The Appalachian State loss was a good example of that philosophy backfiring. Carr had two chances near the end of the first half to go for the jugular, and instead played clock control. I honestly feel they lost the game because of it.

Carr was a very good coach and recruiter who, in his last few seasons, appeared to not be able to adapt to the new style and schemes.
RR brings hope of having a 'modern' offense but remember, so far, his only legit victory is over an overrated ND team with home field advantage. He has a lot to prove... at least he would to me, if I were a UofM fan.Rashean Mathis: "I'm an egg guy. Last year we didn't have (the omelet station). I didn't complain, but I was dying inside."

That's not what I'm talking about though. They were stupid and/or insane.
I'm talking about a guy whose game philosophy involved him leaving points on the field and not taking control of the game when the opportunity arose. Carr wasn't stupid, nor was he nuts. He just had an absolutely brain damaged philosophy on how to play the game.
Williams and Smith, when presented with an opponent on the ropes, wouldn't say, "Nah. Just run the clock out." They would have went for the kill. They likely wouldn't have made the right play call, but that's a different argument entirely.
Lloyd Carr, when he had an opponent reeling, looked up at the scoreboard, and if the quarter didn't say "4", he let that opponent up off the mat. That's what I'm talking about.

Of course packfan would, he is a JLS apologist. He was probably happy with the numerous zero blitzes in the rain versus ND up 17.
All I know is Carr started having more problems when he started losing to Tressell. Tressell is more conservative than Carr. The National Championship season for Tressell consisted of a lot of games getting by on Mike Nugent field goals.
