  • That's probably what the B1G should do, but they won't, because the conference pride is predicated on forcing the Irish on their hands and knees begging to be let in. The B1G continues to demand unconditional surrender, and Notre Dame continues to laugh derisively at the idea.

If the conference game is about markets and money, it's better to have ND in or associated with the Big Ten than not.
I'm not worked up in the least. Wrong again.

College outside the mighty National Champion Bulldogs is just feeder for the NFL in my likes. I could care less. But since we're talking about it, so I commented and I don't understand your fascination. Weird.

I just think the B1G just lowers themselves by begging for ND. Not a good look. They aren't coming. But, do what you do. Beg on. IDGAF My old team will just keep playing for ships.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

      • ND just isn't going to join a conference until they have to and they probably won't for some time. Unless someone just throws a huge bag at them. They have the negotiating power. I wouldn't waste my time and energy on it until the dynamic changes.

The Big Ten isn't begging for ND.

          • Neither side should have to beg or force them in. The rivalry games are there, the money, the region, the recruiting. Its a perfect fit. This isn't 30 years ago when ND was the only one in the nation with a TV contract like ND had. They had no reason to join any conference when they were the national kings.

All that is changed with the size of these contracts and the realignments.

One thing that hasn't changed is that ND is a huge draw for the Big 10 as they make it a stronger conference. The Big 10 will make ND a ton of money putting them with capable teams and rivalry storylines. Its just good business for both sides..

            • One of the gripes ND had was they wanted to play a national schedule. With the addition USC and UCLA ( and potentially Stanford and others) that is out the window. They can still play Navy, Army etc. In the OOC.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

              • I read an article basically highlighting how much money is at stake with these super conferences and what the Big Ten and SEC are doing to make the playoff systems run through them.

Its a ballsy move and one that looks like it’s going to completely change the landscape of college football

Sorry for posting in 2 threads but there's people that don't frequent both and he was a good coach for UM and the Lions.

Gary Moeller, a football lifer who had a brief stint as head coach of the Detroit Lions, has died at the age of 81.

Moeller is best remembered for his five-year stint as head coach at Michigan in the 1990s, with his teams finishing in the Top 10 in each of his first three seasons. He also spent three years as head coach at Illinois in the 1970s.

A protege of the legendary Michigan head coach Bo Schembechler, Moeller played his college football at Ohio State, where Schembechler was an assistant coach. When Schembechler became head coach at Miami of Ohio in 1967, Moeller became one of his assistants, and when Schembechler moved to Michigan in 1969, Moeller followed him again. Moeller’s three seasons at Illinois were not successful, but after he returned to Michigan in 1980 he was identified as Schembechler’s heir apparent, and when Schembechler retired, Moeller became Michigan’s head coach in 1990.

After he was fired by Michigan, Moeller moved to the NFL, first as tight ends coach of the Bengals in 1995, and then as linebackers coach of the Lions in 1997. During the 2000 season, Lions head coach Bobby Ross abruptly resigned, and Moeller was promoted to head coach. The Lions narrowly missed the playoffs that season, and the Lions initially said Moeller would remain head coach the following year, but when Matt Millen was hired as Lions team president, he fired Moeller.

In 2001, Tom Coughlin hired Moeller as the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator, and a year later Moeller took a job on the Bears’ staff. He retired from coaching after the 2003 season.
