  • No shit, but if he gets the punt off it is a win. On that punt block you do not care about a penalty, it is get the ball or bust. The punter will not be spared on a 10 man rush. It is totally different than a regular block call.

    • No doubt he saw what was coming and got jumpy. I still don't understand why Michigan didn't do a better job of protecting. MSU overloaded their right side and Chesson is out wide viewing the whole scene from afar. When all you have to do is step and punt, why do you leave the punter exposed to a jailbreak? Someone in addition to Blake Oneill should get some blame. I thought Harbaugh kind of left him out to dry too. He should have taken the blame. Instead, when asked what happened he described what we all saw and said mistakes were made.

      • The blocking scheme can't possibly be prepared properly to block an end-game kamakazi-like scenario - I mean seriously, do they even practice punting with 10 seconds left? Sure, they practice a ton of shit in the end game, but punting?

That's a sheer act of desperation from Sparty there - I can't imagine that is practiced to know how to deal with it.

        • Yeah. I'm sure Fraquar in the Lions forum has it all figured out, but guys who actually do it for a living have no idea what you're talking about. Good chance of that.

The same formation you use if you're punting from your own 10 yd. line. They call it a safe & tight formation. More blame should have gone to Harbaugh and/or Baxter.

            • You can bet MSU has practiced for that situation.

                • Well no. If the kid hadn't dropped the ball he likely would have gotten the kick off.

If he had max protect in there, they don't get to the end zone and time would have expired. It was a bad call, don't fool yourself.

Kid tried to advance the ball but was not thinking American Football.

                      I am OK with that.

He owned it and I respect his response.

                      Play on.

                      Will not happen again.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

                      • It is safe to say if that happened to Hoke, he would have gotten the scrutiny that Harbaugh has kind of escaped.

If it would have happened to Hoke it would have been the closest he kept that game....

                            • Lot of people still trying to assign blame to a fluke play. Geez.

And no, if it had happened to Hoke, it wouldn't have been any less a fluke play.

                              • Hoke was constantly asked why he didn't do spread punts because it supposedly cost them a game. When you have 5 guys release downfield whe. The defenders are all rushing makes it a bad call period. It doesn't make Harbaugh a bad coach but that was a bad call.
