The big ten had 4 top 10 teams that were not very different in talent. Michigan was the one with the single best player and the one that made it to the championship game.
Rashean Mathis: "I'm an egg guy. Last year we didn't have (the omelet station). I didn't complain, but I was dying inside."
"Michigan made a very nice run though for a 5th place Big Ten team."
-------------------------------------Yep. Since MSU finished higher in the BIG 10 that's important but if the situation were reversed you'd be clamouring another way. What a hypocrite.
finishing second in the NCAA tournament is a nice accomplishment ..... it does not however make you the second best team in the country.
In case you forgot they were only fifth best in the big ten .... a much bigger sample size by the way.
I suppose next your gonna tell me they were a better team than MSU.
Actually, I thought MSU had a better team but at the end of the day, Michigan performed better.
Winning a National Championship trumps Conference Championships every day of the week.
Everyone knows the tourney is to decide the best team in the Nation. It is not a reach to say the looser of the Championship Game is the second best team in the nation.
Izzo has been credit, and rightfully so, for his record in the tourney. I am guessing if you asked Izzo which he would prefer, a B1G10 championship or NCAA championship there would be no question to what his answer would be.
In case you forgot, a point here, a made free throw there, and Michigan is tying Indiana for the League Championship. But, they didn't go so that is a moot point. The B1G10 tourney is just to tune the teams up for the NCAA tourney.
Bottom line is who is winning at the right time.
When it comes to comparing MSU to UofM, this year it was Michigan that won at the right time.
As a Michigan fan, hopefully there will once again be a credible team to compete in both the B1G10 and nationally. When you loose starting players as sophomores and freshman, that is kind of tough to do.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
