  • I dunno, that last "scoreboard" post was so overwhelming that I am now frothing at the mouth to go do some trolling. I can't possibly be happy that my team has done a 180 degree about face under a new coach and is back to being a relevant player in both the Big Ten and the National scene because we happened to lose a pretty hard fought game on the road to MSU. I must obsess that we only beat Notre Dame and Ohio State this year and didn't manage to beat MSU as well.

Losing to MSU might have sucked back before Rodriguez. Rodriguez showed us there are worse things than losing a game or two a season. Like being blown off the field by any good team you face. After the last 3 years, I'll take 10-2 no matter who the 2 happened to come against. If Hoke has this program going in the direction I think it is, there will be plenty of time to beat up on MSU in the future.

The worst part for MSU is that even with their current 4-game win streak they managed to attend exactly 0 Rose Bowls. This year was their golden opportunity with Michigan trying to rebuild under Hoke and OSU collapsing without Tressel. Now with the way Hoke is recruiting and with Urban Meyer showing up, it's gonna be even harder to get to Pasadena.

      • ND/State/M home team wins
        Neb/State/M home team wins

I admit to bleeding maize and blue but I don't see a whole lot of difference between State and M this year.

Re previous years, 4 years is an awfully convenient time frame for State fans. Somebody tell me the head to head record over the past 10 years. Go ahead MassSpartan, swallow hard, you can do it. After that, tell me the head to head record over the past 20 years, the past 50, the past 100. Be honest with yourself here. Numbers don't lie.

Arrogant ass M fans is synonymous with inferiority complex State fans. Always makes me chuckle. Keep it coming.

BCS is a joke. M doesn't deserve Sugar Bowl. Bama doesn't deserve rematch. Not much any of us can do about it though.

          • The last 4 years is relevent because there are still guys playing on the team who started the current winning streak.

I don't have to swallow hard to understand what the history between the two team is numbnutz. But if remembering your past success helps alleviate the pain of knowing that for this year and the 3 prior you get your assess kicked, then by all means ... remember.

I look forward to a some great games over the next several years and have no problem with a U-M resurgence. Time will tell as to which program becomes king of the hill.

There is no doubt who sitting on top right now though. Since nobody has been able to state otherwise, it's a safe statement.

And Jamie .... you keep putting words in my mouth instead of answering simple questions.

Like this one ... If Nebraska is a better team than MSU then how come they didn't play in the BTC game?

or this one .... was Appalachian state better than Michigan? Or Florida since UM beat florida and App State beat Michigan.

            Your argument is super weak.

              • The head to head record since the Spartans were admitted to the Big Ten is much better than overall rivalry record. The overall rivalry record in 67–32–5, since the Michigan State was finally admitted to the Big Ten it is 34–23–2. Since 1990, the rivalry record is 9-13.

4 years is an awfully convenient time frame for State fans

There is some truth to that, but some of that is State finally has a good coach who presumably isn't trying to find the next job. The 7 years prior to that were convenient for you guys. State had two terrible coaches!! You guys had a bad coach and wouldn't believe it, you told me he was an offensive guru!

                • Personally, I root for MSU against everyone but UM, and I think that lots of people do, just not so much the hardcore folks that post on message boards.

For UM, MSU will never have the hatred that the OSU rivalry does.

                  • Personally I think the OSU rivalry is somehwat overstated in its importance to Michigan. They like to say its more important and at some level it is because there has been a lot riding on the game. But if you go on what people talk about in the state of Michigan, its totally different. They talk about Ohio State pretty much the week of the game and they talk about the game sometimes over the year, but the Michigan/MSU game is talked about on the talk radio shows all the time, all year. It never ends. If you were hosting a radio show in Detroit and didn't have a topic, bring up the OSU game and you might get a few segments of callers. You bring up Michigan/MSU, you'll fill the whole show. When you live somewhere else, I'm sure the OSU/Michigan rivalry is bigger nationally. A holdover from the Bo/Woody days.

Saying the OSU rivalry is bigger is part of the MSU rivalry, you do it to get under State fans skins. But when you lose to State its painful for the whole year.

                    • Not really.

The guys that call talk radio shows are the same hard core message board guys that Dean is talking about.

                        • Sorry froot, it may seem that way to MSU guys but OSU is thought about first, second and third as the biggest rivalry by UM folks.

Well they don't call in about OSU, they might be die hard core message board guys, but they the will call in about MSU not OSU. Mind you, its Michigan fans, MSU fans are fairly silent.

Its more than just talk radio I'm talking about. But you guys wouldn't know, you don't live in Michigan. They don't really talk OSU here. I lived here all my life, you guys haven't. Thats a big part of it.

The talk show host angle is correct. The mere mention of Mike Valenti sends most of these guys into an Incredible Hulk rage.
