He better damn well do better than 7-8 wins. If that's unacceptable for Rodriguez, that better damn well be unacceptable for Hoke.
If RR had won 7 or 8 in year one, there would've been very little heat on him. However, he won 3. Then he won 5 in year two before he won 7 in year 3 and went a collective 0-6 against 2 of Michigan's 3 biggest rivals.
If Hoke wins 3 and then 5, he'll have just as much heat.
If he wins 7 (or 8 ) with a Top 5 recruiting class coming in then that should be enough of an indication things are heading in the right direction.
We've still got what was Michigan's WORST defense in decades, if not the all-time worst, so I can't expect that things will turn around immediately. I just want to see marked improvement on that end.
I do wonder how the 2011 recruiting class would've looked if Dave Brandon hadn't kept RR around to coach a meaningless bowl game. Supposedly, Brandon wanted Hoke all along and he and Greg Mattison have been gangbusters since they started recruiting. Maybe we wouldn't have lost the decommits like Dee Hart and wouldn't have missed out on the 2 or 3 other players that had Michigan at the top of their lists but went elsewhere?
Even if Brandon wasn't set on Hoke, we probably also would have had a better shot at Harbaugh. Keeping RR after the writing was already on the wall was foolish and costly in the short term.

Hoke is inheriting a 7-win team. If 7 wins got Rodriguez fired, then Hoke better damn well win more than 7, since the problem was all Rodriguez, dontcha know?

If you want to look at it that simply, RichRod inherited a 9 win team and it took him until his 3rd year coaching to get his 9th win at U of M.
Mind you, I was in the "Wait and see" camp for RR up until we got blown out by Penn State and their walk-on QB who was starting his first game in college. I finally saw the writing on the wall.
A 7 win season (with only 6 wins against D-1 Comp.) in year 3, An embarrassing 0-3 vs. spartie, 0-3 vs. Tattoo U, 0-3 vs. PSU, 0-3 vs. Iowa, 1-2 vs. Wisky, worst D at Michigan since the TV was invented, etc. just wasn't cutting it.
Hoke gets 3 years to prove himself too, although if he matches RR's 3-9 year one record that might change.

Never said Rodriguez did well. He was clearly a poor fit at the University of Michigan, trying to completely turn over a roster into a philosophy that was its total opposite.
But Michigan wants to believe (and everyone else to believe) that the major problem was Rodriguez. I don't believe it was; I think he was the convenient scapegoat for a much larger problem. And if Hoke doesn't immediately deliver, he's going to face the other side of the coin that made Rodriguez's coaching tenure a living hell.
Saying he better damn well get more than 7 wins isn't a disparagement of Hoke, it's the only way he's going to quell the faction that wants a clean break from the Carr coaching tree.
Glenn Robinson III is now up to #46 in the latest Rivals.com rankings. That's the highest ranking for any Coach Beilein recruit. Nik Stauskas is at #99.

The Reebok Breakout Challenge doesn’t attract the same level of talent as the Nike Skills Academies, but there were still a number of impressive prospects featured at the event. It was also the first real action of the summer for 2012 commitment Nick Stauskas and the scoring wing guard made the most of it, impressing […]
Ohio State's 2010 Big Ten championship, its 12-1 season, its victories over rival Michigan and in the Sugar Bowl -- all gone. Coach Jim Tressel is out and so is star quarterback Terrelle Pryor.
