  • And he's pulled a few more strings:

Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr will be a part of the 2011 class of the College Football Hall of Fame.

Former U-M quarterback Brian Griese made the announcement at Saturday night's gala dinner in Ann Arbor to support the Champions for Children's Heart campaign for Mott Children's Hospital.

Though the official announcement will be made on Tuesday, Carr's announcement came a few days early.
U-M athletic director Dave Brandon also announced that major donor Al Glick donated $3 million to renovate Schembechler Hall, the football building.

I don't even think dodger doubts that Carr has considerable influence (I mean, the man was the head coach for roughly a decade, is friends with the University's president, etc.).

He doubts that Carr has used that influence improperly (to run a coach out of town, for example); and I don't begrudge him that. There is little to no concrete evidence for it.

      • How do you know what I doubt and don't doubt? And what's "improperly"?

Hence why I said, "I think." I'm not sure how you can deny Carr doesn't have considerable influence (let's be honest, how could a coach that had his tenure and his success not?), but hey... if you don't, okay.

As for "improperly", using your influence to try and get a coach fired by leaking information to your buddies in the press, or leaking information about a coach your school is about to hire in order to deep-six the process like some believe he did with Miles, for example.

I believe those happened, but there's no way it can be proven. If you don't, I can't be upset you don't.

Nothing improper about any of that. Lying is "improper." Breaking a law that you believe to be a just law is "improper." Using your resources to influence the world in which you live is what we all do. He just has more resources.

                          • Yeah, we might even see Smot throw one down next year! I hope he's working on his dribble-drive as well but I guess the coaches may be looking at him to continue playing some minutes at the 5. Regardless of where he plays, he did need to put on a few pounds.

                              • Congrats to UM's softball team. Down 8-3 to Notre Dame in the sixth and facing elimination, they rallied for six runs to win. On Sunday they'll play Kentucky, which has already beaten them, and will need to beat the Cats twice to advance to the superregionals.
