Former U-M quarterback Brian Griese made the announcement at Saturday night's gala dinner in Ann Arbor to support the Champions for Children's Heart campaign for Mott Children's Hospital.
Though the official announcement will be made on Tuesday, Carr's announcement came a few days early.
U-M athletic director Dave Brandon also announced that major donor Al Glick donated $3 million to renovate Schembechler Hall, the football building.
