    Javonte Hawkins (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic)
    2012, SG, 6-5, 200 pounds | Team: Michigan Mustangs
    College: Undecided
Hawkins is a true shooting guard who is long and very athletic. He sprints the floor, where he is a threat to knock down NBA-range jumpers without hesitation. He also has the first step to get to the rim and finish in traffic or draw the foul. Hawkins will not hesitate to post a smaller defender and simply elevate over him. He competes and has a great motor as well. Hawkins has the length and athletic ability to defend both wing positions. He reminds us of Richard Hamilton and has West Virginia, Michigan, USC, DePaul and Arizona State on his list, among others.

We currently don't have a scholarship available for 2012. If Darius goes to the NBA, I think we'd still be looking for a big man with the extra scholly. If Hardaway and Morris both leave after next year then Hawkins could be a target.

    • I decided to check my Twitter page and I see that Coach Bacari Alexander is back with a vengeance after a month of not posting. I think he's posted about 50 times today.

One thing I noticed (other than his new saying of "Grow Blue") was this:

One of the most important people of the summer is Jon Sanderson. He's our Strength and Conditioning coach. Jon Horford weighing 246 I heard.

            • Through the Grapevine, it looks like Darius Morris will be keeping his name in for the NBA draft. If he lasts to the Pistons in round 2, that could be win-win for both player and team.

              • Morris going to try his luck in a draft thin on Point Guards.

                Can't say I blame him.

                • That sucks for UofM.

Well at it's been a while since you had players good enough to lose to the NBA so thats a good thing maybe.

Your team is still on the rise IMO with a bunch of solid young players beyond Morris.

                  • Im no recruiting guru but Damn, as Rocky pointed out, Hoke and company are not messing around like Dickrod did almost ignoring these 2 states Michigan and Ohio. This looks really bad (so far) for MSU (?).

                    • Yeah they are competing for the same players a whole ton (unlike before).

I don't think it ultimately matters for MSU's success though. I'm confident in Dantonio finding and developing talent regardless of how well UofM is recruiting locally.

I'm not sure it was RichRod so much ignoring the Michigan/Ohio recruiting as it was the star players coming out of those states not matching what his spread offense utilized. Michigan had more than their share of role players coming from Michigan and Ohio by my reckoning.

I hope this grapevine is very very wrong.
