    • 1. I think its fun to watch Michigan fans eat their young.

      2. Hoke sounds like he's going to be a good coach for them.

      3. He might be fine, it just seems like how they went about things was a dog and pony show. They could have had Hoke in December. Was it really a national search? Were they really going to pay top dollar like Brandon said? Hoke surely isn't going to be more than what they were paying before. Were they going through the motions with everyone else?

THat's what really gets me. I don't know if Hoke will be a good hire, but it does look like everything else was just a charade to appease the masses, which of course it didn't because it's still an underwhelming PR hire and most people are seeing right through it.

        • I will say this: Hoke is getting a lot of seemingly genuine love from past UM alums such as Charles Woodson, Steve Hutchinson, Jon Jansen, Desmond Howard, Aaron Shea, Brian Griese, and Braylon Edwards. And if I recall correctly Tom Brady was also pulling for Hoke to get the job prior to the hire yesterday.

Those guys know a thing or two about winning so I'll defer to them. And before anybody rolls out the "well what else are they supposed to say" line, I don't believe a single one of those listed ever publicly supported Rich Rod for whatever that's worth.

Many parallels here - like hitting rock bottom (0-16) making stagnation look appealing.

Wonder what she'll think when the attendance stops funding other sports and the mediocre players produced aren't able to shill for Mott's? FTR Mott's is a great place but I'm livid about what this moron is doing to the athletics.
That's DOCTOR Coleman to you, peon. I realize the world is lousy with PhD's, but I haven't done it, and I respect those who have.

Of course it wasn't a national search, but I think they were sincere in trying to get the four other guys, except maybe Miles. You could say the brand is damaged, but I think it's more like "those days are gone" of the Big Two and Little Eight, and there aren't any programs left that can crook a finger and get anyone they want. Maybe not even Notre Dame. But I can't count how many times I've heard a CEO say they're conducting a national search, and whaddya know? The guy they wanted was right here all the time! That's just common in Brandon's World, which would make a good name for a really stupid TV show.

There you go. Apparantly, universities exist only to provide sports entertainment to the masses.

Oh no, believe me, I wanted RR out too, but in favor of harbaugh or Miles, not a 47 - 50 mac coach who no one would even think of mentioning had he been an assistant anywhere else. I have a hard time seeing it as an upgrade, really.

But thats like saying Jim Schwartz is an awful coach, because his record is 8-24 ... not looking at the fact that the team was on the rise from the terrible situation that they were given.
Also Gene Chizek at Auburn ... same situation.
Hoke took Ball St. from AWFUL to 12-1, losing only because the QB fumbled 4 times.
Hoke took SD St. from AWFUL to 9-4, close losses to teams like TCU, Mizzu, BYU, Utah ...

He's a Michigan Man. He grew up as a child LOVING Michigan until he was a student at Ball St. Thats like if I became the Michigan Head coach. ... even though I'm at Purdue, I still LOVE U of M ... and it would be the greatest thing to be in charge of U of M football.
& he is bringing Pro Style Offense & defense back!

The fact that he is an acceptable hire, and that this is his dream job ... already has me sold that I like him.

                            • Well you may be right, LW. Hoke may be a good fit for Michigan and stick around for 15 years or he may turn out to be worse than Rich Rod or somewhere in between. We simply don't know.

But what we do know is that Rich Rod was a horrible fit for Michigan and had to be fired. There was no point in going down that path any longer.

                              • Lynch left his final season with 6 wins. Hoke took five years to match that high water mark at Ball State.

And his tenure at SDSU is not something to be terribly proud of when you realize Hoke was 1-8 against ranked teams during his time there.

He didn't turn those teams around. His resume is actually spectacularly unimpressive. There's a reason only one major conference program has ever even sniffed at him before the University of Michigan... and not even Minnesota thought he'd cut it.

Yeah, the Golden Gophers rejected the guy that the Wolverines hired to turn the program around. Let that sink in.

The only reason he is the coach at the U-M today is because he worked for Lloyd Carr. You honestly want to tell me that if he had worked for Pete Carroll in USC that the U-M would even give him the time of day?

                                This hire is 100% crony-ism.
