If there is "NO ONE else", than the Wolverines fired a perfectly good coach.
That's not the case at all. There are plenty of coaches that could do the job, and do it well. The Wolverines simply need to find one. It doesn't have to be a big name, astonishingly.
But this is an unfair comparison because a lot of coaches are a better choice than Rich Rod.
Rich Rod might be a 2/10.
Brady Hoke a 6/10.
... Michigan should be hiring a 9/10 or 10/10 ... but other than Harbaugh, there is not another "Michigan Man" excluding Hoke, Miles.
And again, Miles won't be the next HC because of his expensive buy-out.
He had the offense on its way to becoming elite, given how young that entire unit was, with a top-shelf RB on the way in Dee Hart.
His neglect of both the defense and special teams was criminal, though. Even if he got our offense to the level of Oregon's, We were never going to do better than 9-4 or 10-3, and then we'd go right back to 7-6 the following year.
2010 will become the year that unacceptable football has changed. The fans of the Lions , Spartans and Wolverines will benefit from it.
Spartans lead the pack with a great regular season but unacceptable post season, which will be addressed.
Lions finally learned how to win, on the road and at home. More W's will follow.
Wolverines got rid of a jackwagon that had his own ideas but accumulated the worst record in the history of the team.
......friggen losing to a DII team? He should have been fired then.
Except the worst AD in Michigan history, ......oh, is this the same Ed Martin that handed out birthday cakes to BB players that took down all of the banners the Fab 5 won? I think not but, there must be a connection......
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
I'm surprised that there are people who back Rich Rod. As explosive as the offense looked against UMass and Bowling Green they struggled against decent teams. And the defensive scheme is just awful.
Now why are you bringing Lloyd Carr into this? That makes no sense.
My old memory may be a bit rusty but, my memory suggests that it was Rich Rods first year on the job.
I did not look it up but, will back off my statement if you are correct and amend it to not beating State or the other team down south once in his career.

His offense struggled against decent teams mainly because the defense was so bad. You can't tell a group of freshmen and sophs to get cold on the bench for 20+ minutes and watch the defense give up 6 yards and a cloud of dust all the way down the field, and then send them back out knowing if they can't get a TD, they're going to be down 7 more by the time they get the ball again in half an hour. On top of that, they didn't even have the piece of mind that they could ever settle for 3 points. It was TD or nothing, every posession.
Maybe in 1-2 years, that same group of players could have adjusted to that and kept their offensive rhythm. Wasn't going to happen with a group this young.
