If I were trying to get the best gig at Michigan, and there were others competing for my services, I'd let it "leak" that I was unlikely to come to Michigan.

The Turk walks today
Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon will meet with embattled coach Rich Rodriguez early this afternoon to discuss his future with the Wolverines football program, according to two people with knowledge of the meetings.
It?s not the only meeting expected today.
Members of the football team will attend a 7 p.m. meeting tonight to learn the fate of their head coach.
Rodriguez?s future with the team has been in limbo for nearly six weeks. Since a loss to Ohio State, Brandon repeatedly said he would not deliver a decision on Rodriguez until after the Gator Bowl.
On Saturday, Mississippi State beat Michigan in a 52-14 drubbing. It was Michigan?s first bowl appearance in Rodriguez?s three-year tenure.
Today?s meetings come one day after Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh beat Virginia Tech in the Orange Bowl.
Should the Michigan job open, Harbaugh was initially considered the overwhelming favorite for the job. But multiple reports this morning indicated that he rejected overtures from Michigan, his alma mater.
Two people familiar with the discussions said that substantive talks had not occurred between Brandon and Harbaugh, but they did not discount the possibility they could occur if Rodriguez is fired.I made baseball as fun as doing your taxes!

This was from another forum, but it feeds the Chemi UM hoighty-toighty theory.
WDFN host Ryan Ermanni is reporting that Dave Brandon has wanted Brady Hoke all along and Mary Sue Coleman doesn't want Harbaugh because of his DUI in 2005, his messy divorce and his comments about Michigan from a few years ago.
They supposedly are only waiting so long so it appears to Michigan boosters and fans that they did actaully try to get Harbaugh

If Harbaugh is out then the real prize might be Urban Meyer. If they can get him to signal he would be interested in a years time or even 2 it might be worth keeping RR. Maybe keeping RR is impossible at this point...
It's kind of a mess without Harbaugh. Doesn't mean it won't work out but its harder to figure out.Rashean Mathis: "I'm an egg guy. Last year we didn't have (the omelet station). I didn't complain, but I was dying inside."

Well this sucks... but We will have a better idea later tonight after the Rich Rod meeting ... :(
Harbaugh expected to pass on U-M coaching job
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Jim Harbaugh is highly unlikely to accept the Michigan football coaching job if it becomes available, a person with direct knowledge of Harbaugh’s thinking told the Free Press.
Harbaugh plans to decide this week whether he wants to take a job in the NFL. If he stays in college coaching, he has decided he will stay at Stanford, where he has built a potential powerhouse. It would take an extreme change of heart for Harbaugh to end up in Ann Arbor, according to the person, who did not want to be identified because Rich Rodriguez is still U-M’s coach.
The San Francisco 49ers are making a strong push to hire Harbaugh. New Denver Broncos executive John Elway attended the Orange Bowl on Monday — as an honorary captain for Stanford, his alma mater — and ESPN has reported Elway would like Harbaugh to coach his team. But Harbaugh also could stay at Stanford — a possibility that seemed remote just a few days ago.
Harbaugh’s decision leaves Michigan in a precarious and uncertain position. There has been speculation that athletic director Dave Brandon has targeted Harbaugh as the Wolverines’ next coach while he also conducts his end-of-season review of Rodriguez.
If that’s the case, what is Brandon’s Plan B? It’s unclear. If he decides to keep Rodriguez, who has a 15-22 record three years into a six-year contract, it could create an extremely unusual and uncomfortable situation.
Rodriguez’s firing has been considered a foregone conclusion in the media and among the fan base, especially after Saturday’s 52-14 loss to Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl, and he has faced an uphill battle in recruiting with all the speculation since the end of the regular season. This week, Rodriguez’s top-rated recruit, running back Demetrius Hart from Orlando, announced he was switching his commitment to Alabama.
Speculation has been that if Harbaugh said no to Michigan, Brandon could turn to San Diego State coach Brady Hoke, a former Michigan assistant under Lloyd Carr.
But almost all of the speculation has been about Harbaugh, the hottest prospect in coaching circles and a star U-M quarterback in the 1980s. In recent days, Michigan appeared to be in the running for Harbaugh, should Brandon fire Rodriguez, according to two people familiar with the situation.
Harbaugh, who turned 47 last week, always wanted to be a coach, even when he was a little kid growing up in Ann Arbor. And Michigan was always a dream job for him.
His father, Jack, was an assistant coach under Bo Schembechler in the 1970s.
If this decision were solely about love for his alma mater, the Free Press was told, Harbaugh would have taken the U-M job in a heartbeat. But it’s not that simple.
There inevitably will be speculation that Harbaugh is angry at Michigan for snubbing him when he interviewed for an assistant coaching job under Carr and failed to get it, or that he is mad that some at the university took exception to his comments about U-M’s academic standards in 2007.
But neither issue had anything to do with Harbaugh’s decision. His love for Michigan has never wavered. Publicly and privately, he has gushed about his love for Michigan.
So why is Harbaugh more likely to stay at Stanford than go to Michigan? The answer was on the field at the Orange Bowl on Monday night, when the fifth-ranked Cardinal (12-1) crushed No. 12 Virginia Tech, 40-12.
Harbaugh has built another dream job for himself, and he is reluctant to leave his Stanford players for another collegiate job. If he stays put for his fifth season, he will have another strong team. Harbaugh has told people he thought quarterback Andrew Luck, the presumptive No. 1 pick in the NFL draft, will return to school next year.
If Harbaugh and Luck are both in Palo Alto next year, Stanford could contend for the national title. If Harbaugh is not in Palo Alto, he figures to be coaching in the NFL.
After the Orange Bowl, reporters pressed Harbaugh about his future. He refused to address it.
“Respect the game,” Harbaugh said repeatedly. “Respect the process.”
He also said: “I don’t want to be rude, but with all due respect, I’d just rather enjoy the moment and these guys and this team and what we’ve accomplished.”
Michigan, meanwhile, is in a bind. It is up to Brandon to figure out a way out of it.
As he always has, Jim Harbaugh will be pulling for the Wolverines next season. He just apparently won’t be coaching them.AAL 2023 - Alim McNeill

Report: Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez has been fired
Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez was fired Tuesday after three embattled seasons with the Wolverines, Fox 2 reported.
Sources told The Detroit News that Rodriguez was expected to meet with Dave Brandon at 2 p.m. Tuesday to discuss his future with the program.
Rodriguez has coached three seasons at Michigan and is 15-22 overall. The Wolverines suffered their worst bowl defeat, 52-14, in the Gator against Mississippi State.
At least three Michigan coaches were on the road recruiting Tuesday. Others said they were preparing to set out recruiting on Wednesday, pending the outcome of Rodriguez's meeting with Brandon.
"Everyone is sitting on hold right now," one source said Tuesday afternoon.
The players have had a scheduled team meeting this afternoon with the coaches to discuss returning to school and preparing them for the start of classes. That meeting has been scheduled since Dec. 19, according to several sources.
