How did the defense get so bad? I wouldn't have guessed the coaching change would make that much of a difference to the D, or was it a bad defense last year too?"This is an empty signature. Because apparently carrying a quote from anyone in this space means you are obsessed with that person. "

I think they've done a pretty terrible job this year on the coaching staff. Its going to be interesting to see how Rich Rodriguez handles the scrutiny, he's been bad so far with it. He had a reputation at WVU as a coach with a tin ear for criticism.
Lloyd Carr handled the media pretty well with his curmudgeon personality. Michigan fans can get pretty irrational about the coach and their expectations. He took on all the criticsm and shoved back at the media, shielding his players. People kind of resented that, but that approach served its purpose. I think you are kind of seeing what a good coach Lloyd was, he was excellent at circling the wagons to tun around a season after a slow start. In contrast Rodriguez has already said his team plays soft.

I like a coach who will get in a guy's grill, but Rodriguez looks stupid sometimes with his screaming and facial expressions after a bad play. Granted, all the turnovers are enough to drive a coach crazy, but he needs to have more composure. This season is over. Have some fun, work hard and encourage the players. He didn't look as bad at Penn State. Reality seems to be sinking in on him.I'll let you ban hate speech when you let me define hate speech.

Lloyd's strength was also his weakness in that he didn't seem to understand that the criticism was well founded and that it warranted action. He is definitely a good person and ran a clean program which I respect and admire, but with all the talent he had we should have done much, much better under his tenure especially toward the end.
As far as RichRod goes I think he'll weather the storm from the media, alumni and fans. His cupboard wasn't good enough to compete this year but in the next 2 years I think his team will be competing for a Big10 title.
