    • do you watch college basketball and the NCAA Tournament?

why would a college football playoff be 'minor league'?

      makes no sense at all.

Bowls are also what make the college fb postseason completely boring sans maybe 3 or 4 games any given year. And you don't watch the NCAA Basketball Tournament? I don't watch college Basketball at all, but I do watch the tournament, and it is always good, even with significantly more games than any reasonable football playoff.

        • Yeah but football is so much different than basketball. They can finish a bball game one day and play a few days later. Football they need at least a week to be ready for the next which means the tourny would have to be really small.

It's just not a great option IMO.

Every other division in college football manages just fine, and a couple of them have playoff brackets larger than any proposed for Division I-A.

Barely. I'll watch Michigan play. But other than that not so much.

Bowl season is not boring, IMO. There may be too many bowls but, the quality of the wiscy/tcu game will be just as good IMO than it would be in a tourney setting. (people forget the shitty NCAA bball tourney games it seems to me)

You may need a "national champ". I do not. I don't think we will ever agree.

You wouldn't need more than 16 teams to have a great tourney.

                that's only 4 weeks. done.

there's the problem ... you are watching minor league football. :-D

It has nothing to do with whether you 'want' a national champion or not. There is always going to be one. You can look it up.

The question is how do you determine who that champ is going to be. On the field or a popularity contest. I'd prefer on the field, most of the nation would agree, and the money that it would generate would be enormous.

I do agree that the TCU/Wisconsin game is interesting, but it wouldn't be less so in a elimination scenario.

TCU is undefeated. Don't they deserve a chance to win the National Championship? I think they do, yet they have none. Tourney elimanates this problem.

                  • I don't give a shut if TCU gets a "shot" at a national championship.

Half the fun of college football is arguing about who was the best. Michigan still is sore about having to share the national champ title with Nebraska. But who cares. That's part of the fun.

And I don't think college playoff games would be less compelling. I was only responding to those who said bowl games are not compelling.

                    • Big Ten may rethink football division names

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany says a high non-approval rating from fans has the conference thinking it may reconsider the names – Leaders and Legends – given to the two new football divisions.
                      The only logical explanation is:
I'm about to die and this is my Jacob's Ladder

I'm always disturbed that what's best for the student athlete rarely enters into these playoff discussion. These are kids. They are playing basically for free (less scolarships), traveling and under huge stress during holiday and exam season, all while generating enormous amount of revenue for rich guys.

Blue and Red was originally my first choice - but as brook pointed out there's an unfortunate political connotation (I didn't think of that) as well as the obvious UM and OSU centricity.
