No; for one thing, they were coming off a period of uncompetitive play, anyway. But Bo didn't do all the stuff Rich has done to alienate University administration, the alumni and the fans.
A big part of that was his predecessor was all in for Bo, and fully and wholly supported him. When someone went to Bump to complain about Bo, Bump would tell them that Bo was the coach and had his full support. (Bo actually talks about how important that was in his book.)

I'm not certain that RichRod got that luxury.

Plus Bo didn't go 3-9. He went 8-3, 6-1 in the conference and went to the Rose Bowl his first year. He also beat what was largely considered the best team of all time, the 1969 OSU team.

And also, they weren't coming off a period of uncompetitive play. They were 18-12 the three years prior to Bo.

First, saying, "Bo didn't go 3-9, he went..." kind of defeats the whole purpose of the post, smart ass. I said, "What if Bo went 3-9, etc." Second, although they'd gone 8-2 the previous year they had gone 14-16 the three years before that, and had finished under .500 6 of 11 seasons. They were largely uncompetitive. And despite the attractive record in '68, they got beat by Ohio State something like 50-14. They were not among the better teams in college football. Third, who the hell cares what Bo's ghostwriter says in his book? If you believe that stuff, I've got a war in Iraq to sell you.

      • The support Bo got from Bump no doubt helped him. And Rodriguez did not get support from Carr, which hurt. The question is why did Carr remain so aloof? I think there are two reasons: 1) Lloyd did not get to name his successor as Bo did; 2) Rodriguez arrived arrogantly, pointing out what he felt was wrong with the way things had been done in the past. As Jamie Morris said the other day, Bo's absence has allowed all of this infighting to occur. Brandon needs to hit a home run with his next hire. "Someone reputable" won't be good enough.

...or what? What will happen if he merely hires a good coach, and they become a good team? Are there some dramatic repercussions that will occur if he doesn't hire Jim Fucking Harbaugh, as he probably will not?

            • I hate Dick Head with a passion but everything and I mean everything would have been different had Pryor came here. If he couldve swayed him he wouldve had his offense set and in place after year 1.

Instead his first year was a complete disaster and the following years werent much better unless we're playing bad teams.
              F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

                    Meh, Pryor doesn't play defense.

                    • TBH, I'm pretty glad pryor never came. The kid is a prick, whining about not making the all big 10 team, and the whole thing after the wisconsin game.

At least denard's a likeable, humble kid.

Don't get me wrong, I wanted pryor back then, but even then he was doing weird stuff. Wearing a Michigan hoodie but ohio state...earings was it? I don't remember, but it's proven to be what I sort of felt back then. Not to mention the fact that he hasn't exactly been everthing everyone thought he'd be on the field.

As for the coaching stuff, I'll just say, I would go with harbaugh. If you can't get harbaugh, I see no one else out there worth dropping RR for (obviously you bring in a new DC and some staff, that should go without saying).

Let's see if Herbstreit can't screw us out of it.

He probably already has with his "He would take a greyhound bus to Ann Arbor" line on the radio.

Stanford makes preemptive offer to pay Harbaugh more and extend his contract. No word yet on how much the new deal would cost to break.

If Harbaugh signs it and there's no "when mama calls" clause, you can assume that he's been looking for leverage to get a better deal in Palo Alto rather than coming back to Michigan.
