Yeah, I suppose U-M has to save their pennies after blowing $226 million on an unnecessary penis renovation of Michigan Stadium.

Michigan shouldn't celebrate results of NCAA report

The NCAA didn?t reprimand its football program as seriously as it might have initially feared? and it?s the Wolverines? opponents who are popping champagne corks over the good news.
They want Rich Rodriguez around for as long as possible.
Rodriguez breathed a little easier Thursday, the coaching noose around his throat perhaps loosening just a touch as U-M expressed its satisfaction that the NCAA final report on the 14-month investigation into allegations of compliance wrongdoing didn?t deviate far from their challenge to the Committee on Infractions last August.
Michigan believed it scored a victory when the NCAA accepted its impassioned argument against the fifth and most serious allegation ? that Rodriguez willingly fostered an atmosphere of non-compliance, accepting the different conviction that the coach wrongly failed to monitor his program.
It?s like the thief that?s caught stealing your watch, but is relieved he didn?t get nailed for taking your wallet as well.
Athletic director David Brandon insisted that Rodriguez?s job status hasn?t changed although now the NCAA has officially certified him individually as a major rules violator. Brandon reiterated his prior stance from last February that there was nothing gleaned from the investigation to his knowledge that merited any concerns regarding Rodriguez?s job security.
?I?m really pleased with the conclusion,? Brandon said.
The final NCAA verdict validates the basis of an extensively detailed Free Press investigation in August, 2009 in which former and current players charged the coaching staff with routinely violating NCAA rules governing practice and workout sessions during the season and off-season.

?I?m just glad it?s over,? said U-M President Mary Sue Coleman.
There remain some unanswered questions. How could Michigan declare that the excessive practice time didn?t come close to the player accounts in the Free Press if it already acknowledged a failure to properly maintain the documentation with the compliance office? How thorough of a probe was it if, as Rodriguez?s response stated, investigators interviewed only 25 players?
In the end, Michigan cheated ? and got caught.
There are no sighs of relief when you?ve packaged yourself for years as a paragon of NCAA compliance and you violated the rules. But those involved in the Michigan case still cannot bring themselves to categorize this as anything more than admitting mistakes.
The NCAA made it clear in its report that as an experienced head coach, Rodriguez should have known better and simply employing a defense of misinterpretation doesn?t let you off the hook.
Although these transgressions never once reached the level of corruption that categorized the Fab Five basketball scandal, Thursday was nonetheless a shameful day for Michigan.
When the ruling body of college athletics finds you culpable for five major violations, there is no vindication. Just because you?re not as guilty as you feared you might be, it?s not a triumph. The final NCAA report forever stamped the once-saintly Michigan football program as yet another indiscriminate cheater that looks at the often ambiguous rules of the NCAA as an unrealistic hindrance in the ultimate objective of winning games.
And that?s where Rodriguez will be ultimately judged ? on the field, by wins and losses.
The final box score against Illinois on Saturday will have a more profound impact on Rodriguez?s coaching future here.

Never happen - only thing RR and the Wolverines can upset is the Michigan fanbase.

                    • RR deserves should be fired just for sending out the damn shitty FG kicker on two consecutive 4th and shorts inside the 30. FGs are going to win this game, even if the kicker could make them. Your defense is giving it up like a 50 cent whore to a shitty offense. Again.
