  • The more I think about it, the surer I become that rich rod will be back next year with a Dave brandon hired d oordinator and staff.

Denard is just too talented to waste in a different system.

    • Blood is all over the carpet for practicing too long? By like 10 hours?

I'm sure Bo is rolling over in his grave. It's a little dramatic Dodge.

This is freaking awful, SLF. You can argue the relative minor status of the offense all you want. As far as I'm concerned, this is an NCAA felony, and Michigan football does not do NCAA felonies. This puts us with the Oklahomas and Souther Cals.

          • Practicing too much <> paying players.

It's a false equivalence Dodge. I'm not happy with it at all, but it is about third on the list of stuff I am upset with Rich Rod about.

            • Add another year of probation to the two years already self-imposed by U of M.

And for all the "hit piece" talk, you do realize that Rosenberg is a Michigan alum, right? I actually knew him when he was still on staff at the Michigan Daily.

              • Its a hit piece because as a member of the Blue Wall he must always report positive things about U of M.

                • Ah, bullshit to that too. There's been no shortage of critical media coverage going back even prior to Carr's departure.

                  • No it's a hit piece because it was wildly inaccurate in its facts.

You should call Rosenberg and ask him to get the story right next time.

                      • Wasn't someone in here saying that if the NCAA didn't bring any major penalties that he was getting an extension?

I don't consider Drew Sharp to be part of the Blue Wall

                          • I'd really encourage everyone to go back and read the original article. I'm hardly surprised by differences between the original allegations and the subsequent "official" findings after the university had already gone into full CYA defense mode. Remember, not all of the allegations were of the anonymous type -- there were a number of players (Hawthorne, Stokes, Taylor) who went on the record, albeit apparently without understanding the implications of doing so.

This was Rodriguez' initial response to the allegations:

“We know the practice and off-season rules, and we stay within the guidelines. We follow the rules and have always been completely committed to being compliant with all NCAA rules.”

                            Yet the report states:

"... even after the head football coach and his staff were specifically educated on multiple occasions regarding the rules that were eventually violated, the violations continued. The duty to ensure that his staff abided by all applicable rules resided with the head football coach. At the hearing, he could not say with certainty that he read the educational materials provided to him."

Bottom line? The violations happened, all on Rodriguez' watch, and in general he either lied or claimed ignorance. It's hard to take him seriously, and his on-the-field results don't warrant looking the other way, either.

Then I'm sure you want Lloyd Carr brought before the firing squad, because Charles Woodson was taking money and gifts from an agent under Carr's watch (which may I add is a MUCH more serious offense in the eyes of the NCAA).

Or, you are blowing this out of proportion because you hate Rodriguez.

I wonder which one is more likely... hmmmm...

Rosenberg wanted to get vengeance on RichRod for taking Carr's job; and he was going to twist any fact he could to do so.

As for the Freep sports section's integrity that someone talked about earlier (Rocky, maybe?), have we already forgotten this was the same paper that let Mitch Albom ride in what amounted to a work of fiction that they knew couldn't have possibly been true at the time he submitted it?

The Freep Sports Page hasn't had any integrity for a VERY long time.
