Only thing UM has left these days it appears is its name. And I don't even know if they have that anymore. They're pretty much a punchline because of the whole RR fiasco.

They're not even close to being the top university in the state (speaking strictly athletic programs here), and shit, they might not even be in the top 2. God we suck.

You let him take that shot. Every time. Because that is such a low percentage shot no matter who is shooting it that if it goes in, it's more a stroke of pure luck than anything else.

If he's going to shoot from there, you cover the rebound and you don't foul. What would you have said if they had brought pressure, and a foul was called. You'd be bitching, "WHY DID THEY HAVE A MAN GUARDING HIM THAT FAR OUT???!!! FUCKING STUPID ASSHOLE!!! ANGER!!! RAAAAAAAAAAAAGE!!!"

You have a better chance of Turner making that shot than you do of a foul being called in that situation.

Turner probably makes that shot %10 of the time. Anybody else wearing an OSU jersey might make that shot %1 of the time.

You don't give the best scorer in the country time to set his feet and fire that shot. Period. They gave themselves the best possible chance of losing.

The best chance of losing was Turner missing that shot (a 10% conversion rate is being generous), and OSU getting a rebound off the miss because you were worried about someone hitting a 40 foot shot... ya know, the most common way to lose on a shot like that... not that anyone would know because the long bomb has a highlight feel to it. Not too many people remember the put back off a miss game winner.

actually, I think a %10 conversion rate for Turner is pretty low. I was rounding down. He's arguably the most reliable player in the country at taking that shot.

And with 2.2 seconds left, there is no rebound. The clock expires no matter when he shoots it.

There is no such thing as a reliable shooter from 40 feet. That's closer to a half court shot than a normal three pointer.

As for not getting a rebound in time, tell the 1983 University of Houston that. 2.2 seconds is plenty of time to get a tip-in... in fact, if you're going to lose, that's usually how it happens.

I know you want to blame someone, but there was nothing wrong with how Michigan played that last shot. None whatsoever. Shit happens, it was a lucky shot. Deal with it and stop trying to find targets for your rage.

But "better" is a relative term in the sense that no one, especially in the NCAA, is going to hit that shot with anything resembling regularity, especially in a game situation with time running down to end the game.

You let anyone take that shot, because no one is going to make you pay for it consistently. You play those numbers every fucking time. 10% is being generous. For anyone.

1) It was a 37 feet shot (not a desperate heave), but let's continue to call it 40 feet to make it sound better for our argument. He caught, dribbled, calmly set his feet, and had a wide open look.
2) When you play passive and not to win, you deserve to lose. Every. Time.
3) Evan Freakin' Turner is a college superstar and is one of the top 5 players in the country. How the hell do you not even attempt to put a guy on him with any type of athleticism? Douglas??
4) Why not put someone on the inbound pass? You can't exactly foul somebody on the pass and you can force a poor throw.

It was a passive call and I will disagree with it 100% of the time. And the foul argument is bs. I would rather go down fighting than to be passive and call a pussy defense. Force the other team to make a mistake. Don't just hope that they don't execute better than you. You make your own luck by putting yourself in positions to take advantage of it. Beilein failed his team by not putting them in that position.

/Even though it was a rough year, Beilein didn't start to lose me until when he complained about MSU's aggressive play. Apparently, he has not watched a lot of Big Ten basketball. Kind of different when compared to the Big East where defense is treated like a mythical unicorn.

I'm a huge fan of not flipping out because one guy hits a game winning shot from well beyond the three-point line. Even a 37-foot shot is hardly high-percentage, even for a Top 5 player in the NCAA.

Beilein has done plenty to upset about this season. A lucky long-distance shot isn't one of them.
