  • I have noticed, though, that Kelly has not said he isn't going to ND. Meyer and Stoops have said no, but Kelly just says he's focused on his team. I think he'd take the job if offered.

    • There were rumors last year that he was meeting with people in South Bend.

      • Kelly has said in the past the ND was his dream job though.

And he has an Irish name... I'm sure the old timers at ND will like that.

          • I hate to agree with Sharp

Notre Dame, Michigan no longer are elite programs

            • Agreeing with drew sharp is always a mistake.

Any coach who has success at either one of those schools will go down as one of the great coaches. They both are still among the very very top college football jobs.

Saying those teams suck right now is like saying the sky is blue. But don't kid yourself, like the Kentucky job in basketball, these schools are in no danger of losing their draw.

Yes, he anti Big Ten and wants to just get a reaction 99% of the time. He's right about the big geographical advantages that the other major powers have, Michigan and ND still should have a huge name advantage.

                • They both are still annually among the recruiting leaders. # 2 Michigan played at #1 Ohio State in November 2007. After losing that game Michigan defeated Florida in a bowl game. The last two years have been very bad, but it's too early to say Michigan is no longer among the elites. It could just be a temporary dip. Notre Dame is always a threat to be a major power. They just need the right coach to put it all together. And a slightly more lenient admissions department, like when Lou Holz was there.

                    • He'd be more right if the evidence supported him. Umich and nd have generally had very highly rated classes.

                      • I hate ND but I think it is better when they (and Michigan) are a powerhouse in college football. Catholics vs Convicts was exciting years, even if it seems like is was forever ago.

Do you remember Paul Hornung saying this?:

During a radio interview on March 30, 2004, Hornung, speaking about the recent lack of football success at Notre Dame, said, "We can't stay as strict as we are as far as the academic structure is concerned because we've got to get the black athletes. We must get the black athletes if we're going to compete."

                          Yikes!

                              • Good choice... and thats also the reason MSU didn't hire him. He would have been gone the instant he had any success.

But ND is a final destination job for a guy like that.

Tobad for UofM and MSU though as he will be taking many of the states top recruits for the foreseeable future.
