  • David Cook was the season before this past one...so you only missed one season.

Paula might have known the music industry but her critiques before this year were never technical. "You look beautiful tonight! You should be proud." Spare me. I will admit she was much more coherent this year. I think she was competing with the new judge.

So, I don't really think Ellen's lack of music industry knowledge is all that important. I think that Ellen can speak about the contestants much like we would and that's fine. I also think she's a kind-hearted person -- which is needed to offset Simon.

Randy can go too. His takes have been worthless for a while now.

    • As far as new shows go...

I don't think I've set the DVR to record anything new yet, other than Survivor.

      • I plan to watch The Good Wife only because I saw Josh Charles in the commercial.

Someone talked me into watching So You Think You Can Dance this summer. I started watching when they were down to 12 dancers. I really liked it! So I plan to watch season 6 which started this week.

Since so many people have raved about The Wire (a few of ya'll and a coworker), I'm going to start on season 1 sometime soon.

This one never made anyone's highlight reel, but it was one of my favorites:

              • Trauma looks like it might be pretty good. I've been in a void since The Shield ended.

                • Flash Forward looks interesting. I think it's from the makers of LOST. I like shows where weird stuff happens. LOST might be my favorite program of all time. Fringe is pretty good too.

I'm also lookiong forward to seeing V. It's a remake of the 80's miniseries.

                  • I am a big fan of LOST now as well since they put a stop date on it and this will be the last season. It made the shows more exciting but I hope that in a hurry to wrap things up for the final season, they don't leave out a whole lot of loose ends and that is what I am worried about.

I've completely given up on Heroes. I have no idea the direction that show is headed.

I also think that V looks interesting. I remember the 80's miniseries

I'll have to check out Trauma sharkbait. I'm in the void with you since The Shield ended. I've heard that Sons of Anarchy is pretty good.

I might have to check out The Wire as well. Not because of SLF, but because of romster and her friends here (since I don't have any friends here <grin>) and her coworkers.

Lately I've been getting into the TruTV channel and the Black Gold series. It is entertaining so far but I wonder if the producers tell these guys to stir up a bit of drama. I would imagine it is like that on all those reality TV shows though.

I'll still stick with my regular shows this year...........Family Guy, LOST, The Office, How I Met Your Mother, Black Gold, Medium (If I can catch when it is on), and even Saturday Night Live which I have gotten back into and enjoy over the last few seasons (or as Deb pointed out, I have a two to one ratio in seasons that I think I have watched a show so it could be 1.5 seasons ).

What are the staples for other shows that you guys are watching this year for returning shows?

                    • How I Met Your Mother is my favorite show. Neil Patrick Harris makes that show and I just can't wait till the season starts up again!

Medium is on my DVR list. I'm glad CBS picked it up. NBC sure makes some dumb decisions -- letting Medium go just adds to the list.

Lost, The Office, 30 Rock are all staples. I still haven't given up on Heroes despite the ridiculous storylines they had last season. I still dig the characters. Sylar still scares the shit out of me.

Better Off Ted is one to check out. Some episodes aren't as good as others, but the good ones are HILARIOUS.

I've scheduled Cougartown and Modern Family on the DVR. Cougartown (I hate the name) has Courtney Cox and I want to give it a shot. Modern Family has Ed O'Neil (Al Bundy) which gives it a one episode try out here...

There are a couple medical dramas coming but after ER I wonder if anyone can do them well. I don't plan on watching any of them.

Flash Forward or whatever it's called hasn't really seemed interesting to me from the previews. I might wait for some feedback before checking it out.

I plan on checking out Leno tomorrow.

I'm waiting for Californication and the United States of Tara to return!

                        • How I Met Your Mother is awesome. When they first said Neil Patrick Harris was going to play a womanizer I thought it was absolutely ridiculous (this was even before he came out of the closet). But the Barney character is great and Neil plays it well.

Better off Ted is a good show too. Although I really get annoyed when people say Portia DeRossi is beautiful. I find her very non-stimulating (my tastes aren't always mainstream).

I'm very close to dumping Heroes. There are so many shows I want to watch and Heroes just feels like a waste of time.

On cable I like Leverage (kind of like Ocean's 11) and Royal Pains.

Community looks like it might be funny.

                          • I curious about Modern Family. I've always liked Ed O'Neil's acting. I'll give it a try.

I've never watched Medium or Ghost Whisperer but it seems as if they're the same type of show. NBC does make some goofy decisions but it seems CBS does also. I'm still pissed off that CBS dumped The Unit!

Leti & I watched the complete series of More To Love. It's like the Bachelor but with a husky bachelor and rubinesque women. Last night was the final and it threw us for a loop.

Sons of Anarachy is great too. Kurt Sutter (The Shield producer/writer) created the show. I really like the characters Ron Perlman & Katey Sagal play. Very deep with lots of little twists to their personalities.

Another show I'm in to is Breaking Bad. Wicked awesome show! Can't wait for it to start the next season.

                            • The DVR is set to record: Bones - House - Supernatural - 24 - Ghost Whisperer - Life -Lost - Criminal Minds - Psych - Royal Pains - Chuck - Fringe - Ghost Hunters - Destination Truth - Smallville - Medium - In Plain Sight.

Looks like I might need to do some pruning.

Also make a point to watch - The biggest loser with my wife.
