Yeah, I've been excited for this one for awhile - Rian Johnson and Natasha Lyonne? Hell yeah. Froot's notes about the '70s detective influence are right on, but it's also wrapped up in "person on-the-run" broader arc, with Charlie moving from town to town and helping out the locals. So shades of The Fugitive and Kung Fu (which they nod to in the first episode). It's good fun viewing, nothing heavy and interesting to see how they fold her character into each story. Plus Lyonne is just great, always a fun hang.

pastiche - love this word, it's so efficient. I'm not usually a fan of the case of the week type of shows but I do love me some Natasha Lyonne, will check it out.
We are still enjoying That 90s Show. I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be if you haven't watched and liked That 70s Show, but if you did, give it a whirl. Episode 3 is my favorite so far.

I love case of the week shows. This is case of the week with overarching season long storyline that kind of started with Buffy. I'm fine with some of the serialized shows in the modern TV era, but it seems like all of the prestige shows are serialized.
I'll have to check out That 90s show

Hmmm, I watched the first episode of Poker Face, and the Kung Fu reference was lost on me. Now I feel like I need to watch it again! I will have to check out That 90's Show - I thoroughly enjoyed That 70's Show (who knew that Hyde would turn out to be a scientologist and alleged rapist tho).
Has anyone watched Shrinking yet? It looks promising after the first 2 episodes. It's another Bill Lawrence project, so that usually bodes well for me - Scrubs is one of my favorite shows of all time, and Ted Lasso is certainly up there, too."I ain't the type to bitch, I ain't the type to cry, I will sit at your red light and wait for your shit to go by."

My wife and I watched the first episode of Poker Face last night. We enjoyed it and will continue to watch.
I am a fan of the "case of the week" format. I hope that the on-going story line does not get too convoluted. That is how a lot of shows lose me. They get too involved in the long plot and I lose interest.
I only had one issue with the plot
Spoiler:
SPOILERShe figured out that the husband didn't have the gun when he was thrown out of the casino because the metal detector didn't go off. How the fuck did he get the gun in the casino in the first place?
Did I miss something or is it just a plot hole that they left because they had no answer for it? Either way, it did not detract from our enjoying the show.I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

I had the same question. Episode 3 is pretty good. The best thing about the case of the week style is you don't have the urge to binge.
Unrelated note, one thing I love about streaming is you can watch old shows. Lately I've been watching Rockford Files a lot. The thing you notice about it is there is no real set structure to the episodes like we've grown accustomed to with Dick Wolf shows or the CBS procedurals. Sometimes it begins with Rockford in the middle of the case, sometimes you meet the client at the beginning and sometimes no case at all. The Mike Post music is exceptional.
