  • Some people have very little education and or/skills and have no idea what to be employed is, much less be "employable". Circumstances beyond their control. I believe this to be one of those. I don't disagree with your comment when people are employable but don't want to work.

"No attempt to hammer at Dan's opinion, just surfacing tangents to explore".
-----------------------------My comment started as an alternative view on the story trying to be a little sarcastic. I'll admit the more I thought about it, and wrote, the more I thought it may have some validity. Others have made good points.

"Furthermore, don't cops ever go into stores just to show a presence and be a deterrent?"
----------------------------------I would have to say no to this Deb. Police can't be responsible for all business'. I believe they have to provide their own security if so desired. Once the perpetrator leaves the store he/she becomes the police responsibility.

    • But cops do go into stores while on duty. They are not derelict of their duties when they do so.

      • I'm not saying they are or aren't in dereliction. Knowing what I know about public servants I'd tend to believe they are. I'm not familiar with the police rules and I'm sure they differ. Given the current state of affairs and economy I'd think they are relocated to a pretty strict format. I could be totally wrong.

        • True, they could be dealing with some guy who decided to punch the bitch after telling her she was a stupid fucking bitch. That's the guy that needs to be watched

------------------------Absolutely. I wholeheartedly agree. I'm just not sure the police department can justify it's police officers leaving their respective duties to "protect" the masses in order to do a good deed for one. As I've said he could have done this after his shift.

You people are telling me you've never heard of a person being reprimanded for doing good but it was against the "work rules"? If he did it on lunch or break fine but if he did it on work duty, I'm fairly sure he broke some rules.

                          • Dan you don't know what his duties were that day. In this world of media glare we would have heard if he broke the rules.

The woman who took the pics is in law enforcement and she thought it was special as well. Does it offend you he helped someone that hasn't done for himself

LOL. No, Tony. I love this story. Wish it was the way it is in all cases. Fact is it isn't/hasn't/nor will be unfortunately.

Answer the question. Have you heard of people doing good and getting reprimanded for it?

                              Jeezus you're incorrigible sometimes.

I still think this is a PR move by NYPD. Keep up the good feeling people have about the dept. I'm sure it's been high since 911.

Bullshit yourself! There are 34,000 uniformed officers in the NYPD, how good do you think they would be about keeping a secret? Let it go
