My brother had a pretty good day bow hunting. 17"+ spread, scored a little over 140. Im not much of a hunter myself, but he was pretty happy so I thought I would share.

Took me a while to work out why I wasn't looking at a target instead of a deer. I thought 17" spread meant the spread of the arrows on the target and 140 was a points score! LOL It did finally come to me that the 17" relates to the antlers and 140 is the weight, at least I think that's right!

If you fall during your life, it doesn't matter. You're never a failure as long as you try to get up.
The left antler is an iffy 5. In Montana, I'd go with a 4 or 5 point. I think it's interesting that out East, you guys add up both antlers. Out West we tend to count one side...so a 10 point buck there is a 5 point buck out West.
And not to say it's not a great deer. I miss being able to get out hunting.
Incorrect, Dean. 17 is the inside dimension in inches from one side of the antlers to the other. !$) is a points score for the rack which takes into consideration number of points, thickness lendth. length of the main beam, spread, etc.
"Ok, just out of curiosity you guys would say that is a ___ point buck?"
---------------------Nine.
don't they count one side on Mule Deer and both on Whitetails?
It was always one side with any deer or elk with everyone I knew. We always heard adding up both sides was an East coast thing...you know, since they have to compensate since the deer aren't quite as big there. ;)
