      • I just pre-ordered tickets to see John Hiatt and Lyle Lovett in Pensacola March 25th.

        3rd row from the stage!

You always sit way to close to the stage.

Your sight and hearing is going to suffer the same damage as your hairline. ;-)
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

It's too late. Thirty years of running boats has pretty much toasted my hearing.

I have to sit close so I can hear. Ha!

                • Yep. We didn't know any better. One day later in my career they brought a decible meter and checked noises on the 41 foot search and rescue boats that we were on every day. Over 84 dcb at an idle. I would come home from SAR cases and my throat would be sore from yelling over the engine noise.

We are just phasing those boats out now. On the rare occasions that I get underway on one now, I wear ear plugs. Too little too late, I guess.

                    Hmmmmmmmm.

They have come a long way with muffling diesel engine noise from the trucks on the road, in fact, you can drive next to one and not know they are beside you.

Why does it take so long to bring this technology to all aspects of diesel engines?

                      • So. As some of you may have noticed I don't get a chance to post nearly as often as I used to years ago. Mostly it's due to a lack of available time with the biggest culprit being my job. A couple years ago my former boss retired and I took on a lot more responsibility so I've been working more hours and a lot of the time it's just pure insanity trying to meet deadlines and put out fires. My company suffered greatly in 2009 due to economic conditions and we're still working to turn things around so the increased responsibility didn't come with much of an increase in anything else. Until now. I got a promotion to Assistant Vice President (gasp). Granted I work for a company with hundreds of AVPs, VPs, SVPs, EVPs, etc.

Course now I'm goofing off on the internet which isn't probably the best way to behave. Heh...
