        • My family stayed at Port Orleans in '95. We were there for a week and had a blast! Second best vacation we ever took.

........had to laugh though. Our first trip to the food court found me bitching about the food prices but by the time we left, we found it was really a bargain compared to other places on the property. This was before they offered the meal tickets.

          • as luck would have it, we booked our trip while they were offering the free meal plan. There are 13 of us going, so that is easily saving us $2000+!

            • That really is an outstanding value, Kay.

My bitching about the prices was basically a piece of pizza cost $2.50. We bought mugs for $7.50 that allowed free refills at any property. We bought four of them our first meal and that alone saved us a fortune. By the end of the week I thought it was a real value to be able to feed the kids lunch or dinner for $2.50 a head.

No just wondering, I work down in Orlando a lot. I'm actually in Orlando this week and will be that week. You guys will have a lot of fun. I drive past Port Orleans a fair amount.

                • is it nice, Marko? I haven't been to Disney since I was about 12 - I cannot believe what a nightmare it is to plan a vacation there - we had to make our dinner reservations by the beginning of December! Luckily I know a woman who is a Disney travel agent, so she did all of the legwork for me.

Let me know if you want to meet for a beer, Froot. I have a feeling that I will grow weary of our Bakers Dozen & be looking for a quiet reprieve!

                  • I think you're coming in as I'm going out. Thursday is normally a travel day back. I'm sure you'll get weary, but you'll have a blast.

We went in July and I particularly enjoyed the large slide they have in the pool.

We were very happy with the accommodations.

                      • Port Orleans has a great connection to Disney Marketplace...you take a boat from the back of the hotel. We always liked to hit a certain restaurant at Disney Marketplace...Rainforest Cafe...really cool for the kids if you haven't been there.

I turned heads with my family when I had a Plant Sandwich (Grilled portabella mushroom on a burger bun) when we went to the Rainforest. It was wonderful! They now have a Rainforest Cafe at one of the local supermalls and the bride and I go there just so I can get a plant sandwich. (I have also grilled them frequently during the summer for a light a great dinner!)

Agreed. I really liked going to Rainforest Cafe when I was interning at Disney.

Thinking about high prices, I remember being told that the popcorn is sponsored by Orville Redenbacher, so Disney gets it essentially for free. Then they charge astronomical prices for it. Part of the internship was going over finances. Those theme parks are a literal gold mine for the company.

Absolutely. When you take a vacation at Disney and stay on the reservation you very rarely get off of it. Every single disposable dollar, goes to them.
