Amazon has started their Black Friday sales and there are some great deals to be had! As you shop this holiday season, please consider using the forum's Amazon.com link (listed in the menu as "Amazon Link") to add items to your cart and purchase them. The forum gets a small commission from every item sold.
Additionally, the forum gets a "bounty" for various offers at Amazon.com. For instance, if you sign up for a 30 day free trial of Amazon Prime, the forum will earn $3. Same if you buy a Prime membership for someone else as a gift! Trying out or purchasing an Audible membership will earn the forum a few bucks. And creating an Amazon Business account will send a $15 commission our way.
If you have an Amazon Echo, you need a free trial of Amazon Music!! We will earn $3 and it's free to you!
Your personal information is completely private, I only get a list of items that were ordered/shipped via the link, no names or locations or anything. This does not cost you anything extra and it helps offset the operating costs of this forum, which include our hosting fees and the yearly registration and licensing fees.

My daughter has had a really rough year. Her grandfather died and she was forced to uproot from Ohio, which she loved and had a bunch of friends, to North Carolina, which she hate's so far and is now living in a less than ideal situation. Nothing serious, just cramped quarters, in a small house with too many people.
However, she maintained her grades and has again received straight A's. She has also been told she will be up for an opportunity to earn her AA degree while she attends high school. She will be a freshman next year. I didnt mention that my daughter was held back in the first grade due to a developmental problem where her brain didnt send the signal to her hand causing her to write letters and words backwards similar to dyslexia.
This kid really amazes me. She has been through so much so far in her life and to be as level headed and still focused on school, just blows me away. I am so proud of her. I know every one says they have the greatest kids but I truly believe it.
Edit: This opportunity is not for everyone. They select 10 students in the county a year to participate. My daughter is one of 50 finalists thus far.Last edited by MiamiTreo3; February 1, 2011, 02:58 AM.Your right! Matty Boy will save us all!!

"Don't let her get boy crazy and throw away her grades... "
------------------You just described my daughter. She use to get all A's. Now she gets a few A's a few B's and some C's. Dad isn't too happy. Problem is mom tells her C's are a good grade.

My neighbors daugher I thought had it all.
Neither parent went to college, and they are great people, but they are what you would call rednecks. No shirts pretty much anytime, keystone light, they go to the trailor park on the weekends, etc.
Well her senior year in high school she was given a full ride scholarship to an area college for her grades, it was the perfect chance to move up the ladder in life, then in February she showed up pregnant. She never went to college.
I thought it was such a waste.AAL:to be determined

when kids are given something like that, they don't appreciate the value until it's too late. I'm not putting my kids through school. They will either earn scholarships on their own, work and pay their own way, or take loans.Got Kneecaps?

I was given college by my parents, and I smoke and drank the opportunity away.
If I wanted to go back I had to pay for it myself, which I did. Made my last college loan payment about a year ago. Since I was footing the bill I tried a hell of a lot harder, that is for certain.AAL:to be determined

Best gift you can ever give your kids is indepencence. Kids don't learn these kinds of things when they are simply given whatever they want. I know as a parent I want my kids to have a better life than I do, but there's a fine line between giving them what they need versus spoiling them.
Going through that stage of things with my two 5 year olds...Got Kneecaps?

Thanx everyone. I am pretty excited. I have tried my best to spoil my daughter when I can but when I lost my job as a hotel manager afew years ago, it has made it difficult. My daughter has been understanding and has thrived since. She may like boys and things might not go the way we would hope but she know's I love her no matter what.
Deb, I could only hope she would be so lucky! Actually, my daughter(her name is Lexus, so I can stop saying my daughter every time) has shown great character from an early age. She would not succumb to the crowd of girls in her neighborhood, rather she would come home and play by herself than do things with them she knew she shouldn't be doing. But thanx for the wishes!Your right! Matty Boy will save us all!!
