Nice Stee, really nice. I'll look into doing the same type of thing around here. If it works out maybe some of us local Yoopers can join your venture.

            tsk, tsk, tsk Mr. C.

Every year, two max for a physical.

Glad your health checked out fine after waiting so long though.

              Awww come on.

The general rule for Males is, physical (or more like blood test) to get married.

Physical at age 45. Physical at age 50. After that, the docs are making sure you are seeing them several times a year until age 60 when they give you your own parking spot, keys to the executive restroom and weekly appointment on the same day of the week at the same time so you don't forget.

              • I mine data for a large health system to spot trends as part of my job. One trend: Men just don't take care of themselves. On every key indicator, they are not staying on top of their health. They're not having a yearly physical, not doing the colonoscopy nor the PSA test, not getting a lipid panel, and so on.

Women are much better in this regard.

Of course, one trend also noted: Women's healthcare bills are much larger. Both because they're taking care of their health and due to their different equipment.

                • Deb - my results at 37 are about what they were 15 years ago. I DO take care of myself the best I can. Doc was impressed.

difference between taking care of myself and getting a physical....

                    I totally agree.

Men have a tendency to go to a Dr. when they feel something is wrong (and the older they get, it really has to be wrong to see a Doc about it).

Part of the problem here is usually at a young age (by young I mean early 20's when they are paying for their own care) they go to the Dr. because they feel like crap only to be told they have a common upper respiratory infection given a scrip for antibiotics and told it will be gone in a few days. Next time they feel like crap, they skip the trip to the office and the cost of the antibiotics and tough it out.

Women are taught at a young age that because of their equipment, it is important to have a regular check up (no matter how dreadful it might be) to ensure a nasty problem is not present even if they feel OK.

                    • Coop, I'm glad you take care of yourself, but shit still happens. You won't know about it unless you get checked out regularly.

Mark, I think you're probably right.

-----------------Totally agree Deb. I also agree with what Mark said. Hell my ex had to make me go into the ER one time at 3:00am(she drove) because I couldn't keep anything down---including water. I was also colder than shit. When I got to the ER they gave me 4 IV's of fluid. I was pretty dehydrated. Good thing the Ex made me go in. I still say I would have been alright though. :-)

                          • My favorite uncle in the world was badly ill, seemingly had a bad case of the flu. He never went to the doc. A month later, his girlfriend finally got an ambulance to take him to ER. He died that night. It had turned into pneumonia. He was 46 or 47 at the time.

Stubborness in this regard is just dumb.

                            • I'm lucky to have never needed hospitalization or ER for anything medically related outside of needing a stitch on my thumb for a work related injury.

That said when I do get sick if it goes longer than a day or two with really bad symptoms I will not wait to get help.
