  • I had fun with my inlaws today but my carpet cleaning machine just got a workout at 11pm bcz I didn't quite make it to the sink this evening.

Fat Tire beer later mixed with Rum Punch and red velvet cupcakes try to leave some nasty stains on light colored carpet.

Thank you Hoover very hot water cleaner!

    Talk about buzz kill.

Your in-laws sound like they have a lot in common with my in-laws. I love them to death, but I think they're killing my liver.

        • Well, an update and closing the books on the seeking a passport saga.

Dealing with three different Governmental Agencies I could not be more impressed!

As posted before, I applied online for a copy of my birth certificate on a Monday to find a true copy in my mailbox on the following Wednesday. Unbelieveable!

Applied not the day after receiving my birth certificate but the following Thursday at the local post office (and this branch btw, does not have a good reputation for customer service but it was close, they were able to take the necessary pictures and I was willing to gamble).

Treated wonderfully by the employee that is responsible for processing the documentation. Was in and out in 20 minutes.

Received my passbook passport exactly 1 week after applying for it.

Received my card the following Friday (which made it 2 weeks and 1 day).

Got my birth certificate back exactly 3 weeks from the day I applied.

All I can say is wow!

I would have taken all odds that this would not have happened that easily or quickly.

I am anxious to use it now. I have a niece that lives in Canada so I will have to talk to my daughter and take her and the grandbabies for a visit.

          .....on another note.

I was notified this week that #1 son will be taking a new job with Haliburton. The bad part is that he will be moving to Houston. The good part is that his new position is basically a latteral move with the opportunity to move up the corporate ladder pretty quickly and more importantly, job security, which his current employer refuses to give him. (Long story but he works for a company that was spun off of one of the Auto Companies and they make parts for the most popular vehicle of that company but have been looking to sell the company and if that happens, since he is management, not Union, he could be dismissed upon completion of the sale. They have sold it at least 3 times but the sales were never consumated.)

I will miss not being able to visit to see my grandson on a regular basis but, this is a good career move for him and will give his family much better security.

            • Not sure I follow that, Mark. You got your birth certificate back on the following Wednesday and then again three weeks later?

Glad your son is landing on his feet. Has he gone to Houston to scope out some living arrangements? When I went to Utah a couple years ago, I met a woman from Houston. She was rather opinionated and went on and on about how Hurricane Katrina ruined Houston, because that's where all the refugees from New Orleans wound up. Crime increased and the quality of life decreased. Of course, if he's used to Detroit already, it sounds similar.

              • You send your birthcert to the Gov't to get your passport. They send it back to you later.

                • Oh, I had no idea. Why don't the folks at the post office just inspect it?

I thought that was odd as well when it happened to me, Deborah. I guess those more qualified that front office postal support have to determine authenticity of the document to let you travel as a citizen of the U.S.

My kid being part hispanic was surrounded by family and friends with all things DTE.

At one point, it was becoming too much. Fortunately, at the point when they started buying her DTE themed matching clothes, my kid was moving away from DTE and into other things.

I still have about 1/16th of her room that needs to be cleared of kids games and toys.

Let me know if you have any interest in what is more than likely going into a garage sale to a donation if not sold.
Yeah, some of the DTE catchprases and jingles just stick in my head ;)

Although Zoes already got a ton of toys, you can send one toy if you like as a keepsake from Uncle Gonz. As for the rest, it would be best to donate them to those less fortunate. Thanks for the offer, Gonz.

The Post Office only facilitates receiving the application from the public. The State department issues it.
