    I've never skied again.
Thanks YT. Good to hear that it get great reviews. You didn't give it enough time my friend. If I stopped at three falls, my snowboarding career would have ended years ago!

    • Bim, I don't ski, but Mrs. SLF and I had a great weekend at Park City....The Skiiers on the trip said it was a blast.

      • Thanks SLF, I really like that area as well, and have been to that area a few times...mostly to The Canyons, and to places closer to Salt Lake City. My son was wanting to try a new place. I am also looking at Big Sky in Montana, and Powder Mountain north of Salt Lake City.

Wow, there is no good way to get into Mammoth...no major airports nearby. That drives the ticket prices up by 40%.

        • Bimmer,

Heavenly only has about 40" something inch base right now. The highest peaks are about 10K.

I can highly recommend Deer Valley (UT). Their base is somewhere in the high 30" and is real easy to get to from the SLC airport. Plus, their highest peak is mid 9K.

Mammoth btw, has a base of 3.5 to 7 FEET.

Whatever resort you choose this year, be safe out there again.

Mono County where Mammoth is located is one of the most beautiful locations in all of California.

Just read you've done most of the Park City ski area. So you've probably already done Deer Valley. Remind your kid that the Winter Olympics were recently held there. I had the time of my life there just before the Olympics arrived.

Thanks Gonz, Mammoth is intriguing. I am not worried about the elevation of the mountain--as far as the peak goes, it is just the sleeping part the bothers me, so that it why the base elevation is important. I have no problem with "on the mountain" exertion. In Breckenridge you could rent a tank and put yourself on oxygen overnight but that seems like a hassle. I think Deer Valley is a skiers only place if memory serves. No snowboarders.

Ah yeah. I remember that now. No wonder I had the time of my skiing life there. No boarders zig zagging all over the place like a bunch of wild banshees.

                  • Skiers need to loosen up. 'Way too stiff and set in their ways.

Believe me, this skiier has no choice but to change my ways and my line as my local resort is about 90% boarders and Mammoth runs about 60(boarders)/40(ski).

                      • Since we're on the subject of places to stay albeit at entirely different elevations, anyone have recommendations on where to stay in New Orleans that is close to the action, somewhat safe, and nice without too high a price tag?

Love Whistler. Go there if you ever get a chance. You won't be disappointed. Would go again this year but not with the Olympics in town.

I looked at Mammoth, because you gave it a good recomendation, but I don't sleep well at elevation. It shows about 8000 at the base for Mammoth, and Breckenridge didn't agree with me at 9600. Heavenly is about 6300. I just don't know where the magic number is as far as elevation goes. Did you hear that Heavenly has less than desirable snow these days?

I would be interested in this answer also as I am planning to go for Mardi Gras next year.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.
