  • I'm a proud mama this morning. Yesterday we got a letter from my son's school telling us that he had qualified for advanced placement in math, which means that in the fall he will be skipping an entire grade level in that subject. Woot!

We always suspected that he might be a nerd, what with the Star Wars / shark obsession, but now it is official! That's my boy!

        • Yes it is. We were really surprised - he's really strong in english, but we had no idea that he was excelling in math. The only downside is that we will have to spend the summer reviewing 3rd grade math with him so he isn't completely lost... I want him to be challenged, but don't want him to be overwhelmed.

          • Congrats, Kay!

.........well today ends a chapter in my life.

At 7PM this evening commencement ceremonies begin for Tailgunners graduation from High School.

Yesterday morning my daughter called me and said "Hey, your baby is graduating tomorrow, does that make you sad?" I said "Why would that make me sad?" She said "Because it is closing a chapter in your life, isn't that kinda sad?" I laughed and said "Hell no! I've been living this chapter for 33 years and it is about time it is over. I am looking forward to moving on and being Daddy from a distance instead of issuing everyday orders."

I will shed a tear as the commencement band plays pomp and circumstance because it takes me back to my High School days when I was participating in the band including my Senior year. After this evening I will have witnessed all 5 of my kids graduating from High School and 2 graduating from College. I will be teary eyed but they will be tears of great happiness and joy.
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

                • Congrats Marko and Kay....

Kay, don't let it go to his head. I was in AP English through most of gradeschool then I figured I could get by without the hard work that got me there. I completely floated through highschool.

On the flipside, English and History were the two college subjects I actually did well on.

Funny how that works. I was in a "gifted" program in junior high but hated going to a special school where none of my friends were. I eventally talked my parents into allowing me to go to the original school, where I proceeded to get into trouble and skate by since I wasn't challenged at all.

Hopefully Kayrone's guy is young enough that it won't come into play.

                        • Thanks everyone.

I am getting more anxious as the day wears on. I am wondering how I will be able to maintain my composure so Mr. Unsociable and Tailgunner does not have ammunition to jab at me for eternity. (I can hear it now.......Mr. Unsociable:Here we were at Tailgunners graduation, a time you are supposed to be happy and celebrating, right? ......and there is Dad sniviling and crying like a girl!.......unbelieveable!)

                          • My younger son (a.k.a. Terry Fair Fan) just finished his frosh year in college. The school is NCAA DII and he got a scholarship offer to play baseball there. I tried to talk him out of it and go to a smaller school because I didn't think he'd play at all until maybe his junior year since they finished 8th in the country the year before. They're good. Well, he started every game for them as a freshman. That made my entire spring and proved that dad doesn't always know best.

They won their conference and went to the regional tourney. Ended up ranked 27th in the country.

                            • Just bought my 4 year old one of these nerf projectile shooting things (I may have bought one for myself as well), so we've been running all over the house shooting each other wild west style.

Most fun I've had in some time. Summer vacation rules!!!
